The material is felt like and it's adhesive seems to work securely when placed. I've used this to help seal up a charcoal BBQ grill whose lid is completely metal to metal contact. The gasket has successfully sealed up the grill leaving only minimal smoke to escape. I would make sure that the surface is completely clean to ensure good adhesion. I recommend placing on the grill when new or close to it as any build up is difficult to remove.
