From the foremost designer of pie irons comes a specialty sandwich press designed to make delicious grilled Italian Panini sandwiches. Featuring a large 8" x 4" cooking surface and made from heavy cast-iron to insure uniform and solid pressure on the sandwich as it toasts. Rome's Panini Press makes cafe quality sandwiches with ease, style, and verve. Since it's made for grill and stovetop use, our Panini Press feature shorter rods than our campfire pie irons (22" instead of 28"). Review: Novel Idea - The only problem is that you can only make one sandwich at a time. I had 3 sandwiches to make in Texas Summer weather over the gas grill. This really was not fun. I might try it with pie crust in the Winter. I tried to season it on the gas stove inside but it smoked up the whole kitchen so I moved outside to the grill. The sandwiches were great and it works great, just too labor intensive for the outcome.

I followed the seasoning directions and my first few sandwiches stuck just a little but were easily popped out with a knife. The non-stick surface will develop with time, I'm sure. Used a vegetable oil to season it but now found a sunflower oil spray for making the sandwiches. We also use this at home on a little gas grill but it doesn't get nearly as hot as a campfire and the cook time is much longer, but it still works. This really is ideal for grill or campfire, but make sure you have someplace to set it while cooking. You really wouldn't want to try to hold this heavy maker for 8 minutes or so by the handles.

**Q: Please, which is the total weight and measures for shipping?**
A: It is a very heavy object and was shipped intact in a rectangular box. The length is about 24" by 8". My guess is over 2lbs for shipping but don't quote me.

**Q: Is it a truly seasoned cast iron or does it have non-stick coating?**
A: It doesn’t have Teflon or a non stick coating. I use mine on an open fire and seasoned it myself.  It has some weight to it like cast iron should.  Very happy with mine.

**Q: I see that it is 4" x 8" but what is the inside height?  how thick will the sandwich be when done? ty coast**
A: Inside height is 3-4 centimetri.

**Q: Does it work on induction (?)**
A: M8, this stuff is for open fire.

We go camping a lot and I was looking for some healthier foods to take along; I thought panini might be tasty and fun. This maker is solid cast iron and very heavy and does well in the campfire. The handles screw in and removes easily for cleanup if desired. There is a rather cheap little hook clasp to hold the two handles together when making a sandwich, and I find it difficult to undo when the maker is hot from the fire, but it actually does do a good job of holding everything tightly together so you get a perfectly cooked sandwich. Toasting a sandwich in this method just makes the flavors come alive, and you really can use just about anything to make your sandwiches. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love sandwiches made in a pie iron

I use this panini press to make sandwiches on the camp chef grill, open fire and stove top. Makes perfect panini sandwiches and adds some fun to the process for the entire family. Great times to be had when you make dinner - custom sandwiches with the family. The only issue I have with Rome products is the amount of work necessary to season the irons before use. No doubt that the irons will last two lifetimes after a proper seasoning and some minor upkeep. Do your self a favor and buy a few of the pie irons, good food and fun times as a family.
