If you use a thicker knob, it almost looks like a brown. It drys very fast, so left-hand writer should be OK. It is loaded with shimmer so you will see it at all times. Surprisingly my extra fine nibs don’t clog, but the shimmer doesn’t come through as much but you can kinda still see a little bit so I would probably say the shimmer does not compromise the flow or the color. Review: I love goooooooooold - The Golden Sands ink deposits a generous amount of shimmering particles in the penstroke. The base ink shades from yellow to brown. I also got Purple Pazzazz around the same time, and Golden Sands has way more shimmering! I use this ink in a fude nib pen with a converter. Thin and thick lines alike have even shimmering. Few times the pen has ran out of shimmer particles with about 1/4 of the ink still remain. I draw in more fresh ink and righ back to writing. The color is a beautiful that looks great on the page without being too bold or too light. It flows smoothly in my pen and dries pretty quickly, so I don’t have to worry about smudging.
