It is certainly a winner against the first generation of Irwin Speedbore spade bits. The one I received doesn't have the pointy wings on the sides. Those are the first generation of Irwin's spade bits and they are good, but this one is better and it seems much more aggressive. I've tested it in my (XDT16Z) 1,600 in/lbs Makita impact on some pine 2×4's and it stopped my impact. The old spade didn't do that, it kept going. I could've used my drill for that test but haven't tried that yet.
