They took car, my newly purchased cover, and returned the car 15 minutes later with console looking like new. $20 for lid and 15 minutes of install time (I was told 8 screws) and "Mission Accomplished"!! I did not witness the install, but I am very happy with the look now. It doesn't look like a cover up or patch it up job. It looks like a new lid and the problem never happened.
