First off, they don’t flip or flop which is lovely. Secondly, they are more secure to your foot so walking in them is easier as they stay in place. They take 2-3 days to break in, but once you wear them around the house for a bit you will be good to go! I had to get use to walking in sandals because I’ve been a flip flop guy for so long, but after a couple days I got my footing and am very satisfied with this purchase. These sandals are terrific for water, sand, and give the traction and stability to climb the rocky areas that surround our rivers. The Z2 sandal is my favorite because the toe strap stabilizes the forefoot. The Z2 as well as the Z1 have aheel cup and strapes on either side also. My daughter, while attending college became involved in river rafting with friends, and introduced me to my first Chacos. That was almost 20 years ago. I have worn them ever since. I've had many rewebbed some resoled and I must have at least 10 pair. I am a cancer survivor and suffer from neuropathy in my feet from chemo. Shoes drive me crazy, Chacos are my foot gear of choice. I cam adjust everything else beside it and its frustrating. Thinking about return** A: I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the heel strap, in conjunction with the sole itself and the big toe position, is what determines the size of the sandal.
