Review: Solid purchase - During a timing job on our car, we were able to support most of the work with a jack under the oil pan. But when it came time to remove the oil pan completely, a support was absolutely necessary. This one really came through. It was easy to set up, easy to use, and gave us the confidence to work underneath without worrying about the engine shifting or coming down on us. For a smaller car engine, it’s more than up to the task. Would I trust it with the engine out of a full-size truck? Maybe—with heavier chains. But for compact or mid-size car work, this is an excellent piece of equipment. The only real challenge is figuring out where to store it afterward. Overall, solid build and a worthwhile purchase.

**Q: Will this work to remove a maual trans. on a HHR?**
A: It’s designed to hold the engine while the cradle and transmission are removed. It doesn’t remove anything… it just holds the engine while you remove the trans…manual or automatic!

**Q: Will this work on a 08 hhr?**
A: I doubt it very seriously I tried using it on a 2012 Audi Q5. Fully extended the end supports were about 4in short of sitting in the side bay channels where the hood would rest.

I do believe that HHR engine bay is pretty much the same size.

If the support beam were ten inches longer, it would be a useful item

I worked under an engine supported by this bar for several hours while I was preparing the engine for removal. No worries. The feet on the ends of the bar are configurable to fit many engine openings. The engine opening on top of my Boxster does not have parallel sides and this bar fit in the drainage channels with no extra work. The chain hooks are long enough to be secure. The wings on the tightening nuts are large enough to generate torque. All pieces are solidly constructed. Not the cheapest option, but do you really want to work under the cheapest engine support bar?
