Review: Solid hood for the money - I was issued this model hood at a previous job and used it day in and day out for 5 years with no issues. When I started a new job, I knew this was the hood I wanted. It’s a bit on the heavy side compared to my Optrel e680 but I adjusted to it. The “grind mode” is shade 4 which is what I use to torch cut with. The adjustments for sensitivity, shade and mode are simple and easy to use. The ratcheting headband is comfortable and seems of good quality. I haven’t dropped this one off a ladder yet, but if it’s anything like my old one, it will stand up to it. ***1 year update*** I’ve dropped this hood off my bench, ladder, welder, and the forklift….like a timex she takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Ratcheting headgear still works as good as the day I got it. It’s not a fancy looking hood like the Optrels and Esabs, etc but it’s comfortable and works. My only complaint is on cold mornings when my breath condenses on the control pad part of the lens, the screen telling you what shade it’s set to will go blank. I push the button a half dozen times and it comes back to life.
