Unless you've literally NEVER used MS Office -- on either the PC or the Mac -- then this book is a complete waste of your time and money. To say that it's "basic" would be a dramatic understatement. This book is designed for people who just bought a Mac and are thinking to themselves, "Gosh, I'd like to write a letter on my computer. I wonder how I do that???"Seriously, if you can't figure out the MS Office functionality that this book teaches you on your own, then maybe you really shouldn't be using a computer... Sorry to be so negative -- the book IS well written, but I just got almost nothing out of it.OK, maybe I'm being overly harsh. I'm a 20+ years user of MS Office on both the PC and Mac platforms. I love to hate Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. (Alright, PowerPoint is, IMHO, the best program MSFT has ever created.) While these programs are very complex, and very capable, the basics of making and formatting documents with them is not rocket science. Unfortunately, that's about all this book covers -- there's just not much info beyond what the menus do...For my part, I was specifically hoping to learn how color themes in PowerPoint for Office 2016 work on the Mac. I've dabbled with templates and themes in the past, and something's different between Office 2011 and Office 2016 -- the new version doesn't seem to want to let me edit the color palette and save it so that my new .POTX files would retain my custom theme. Unfortunately, this book doesn't even seem to acknowledge that such functions in PPT capabilities exist -- forget about providing any help on them...Bottom line? This book does a fine job covering the basics if you are utterly new to Office. If you have even a little experience with ANY prior version of Office, this book won't teach you much. ### ⭐ virtually useless - waste of money *by M***B on Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2020* I wanted to find out how to use Outlook. An e-mail client a basic basic basic feature of any office suite (along with word processing and spreadsheets). Did I find out how to use it? No, I did not. (Yes, I read several times and -took notes-.) Where the heck is the address book, for example? There's no icon. It's not on any drop-down. WTH? What's it called? Address book? Contacts? (I finally found it as "people.") Ok, now how do I put people in it? Never did find that.There were several chapters on NOTES, which is a "frill." If you're looking for Outlook help, keep movin' on. The Word material wasn't all that hot, either. The index is of almost no use other than to find quickly where to look for major sections.
