Review: A joy to build for moderate model makers - I have just finished this Vought Corsair F4U-1A in 1/48 from Tamiya and it has been three weeks of absolute joy. The kit goes together extremely well and I did take the liberty of adding some 0.8mm copper wire for the engine and landing gear. To me I’m used to 1/72 scale model kits and it’s very rare that I have tried the 1/48 scale. I think as long as you take your time. Use YouTube for ideas like adding the wire for example then you can have a model you will be proud of. Yes the wings are a little fiddly and I lost my aerial as stupid me had my bin under my work area. Never to be seen again. I did prime it in black and mottled white in between the panel lines for. Painting some panels differently like they had been used longer or replaced. Then used a cocktail stick with Vallejo aluminium to make a chipping effect to show the aircraft had been used extensively. Overall I’m very happy and proud of the end result. It’s not easy. Will take time and patience. The amount of times I have had daylight outside my studio only to get stuck in and not realised it had gone dark outside are numerous. I would recommend this to moderate model makers. It can be tricky in parts and you’ll need quite an extensive set of modelling tools like an airbrush, decal thinners and small almost micro brushes. The copper wire is a nice touch but not essential. This model is wonderful to make. An absolute joy.
