Bar has a plastic cover on it, that was torn up a bit (not a big deal at all bar was in great shape). Please make sure you wipe off the oil/residue from the bar once you receive it. Once you wipe it off it'll take about 4-5 quality uses for the oil/residue to come off the hand areas -- but don't fret; the knurling is pretty aggressive. The bar will not slip in your hands, just trust me on that. I curled with 100 lbs on the bar, and the thing I really enjoy about this bar is that it aggressive enough that the bar will not slip, WHEN USED PROPERLY, but not aggressive enough to cut and cause bleeding. I truthfully believe it's a happy medium, and quite frankly that's the knurling I look for in an EZ Curl Bar. If you are worried about the knurling, just use some gloves to lift. The bar is comfortable for me, I've used it wide, inside, and even against the plate area. Fits my Rep Fitness Bumpers perfectly, and fits my collars just fine that I use on my barbell. Wouldn't expect them to, but looks like it in the pics.** A: The comment above is not true. EZ curl bars are NOT created equally. In strict curl competitions, they will use an IVANKO OB-30 bar. The angles are less extreme and the space in-between the gripping points vary in distance. **Q: I just purchased this product, and I noticed that the collars spin very freely (no issue) but they also rattle back and forth. Is this normal?** A: I purchased the same bar and yes its normal as there are bearings inside the tips of the bar. The tips should only slide back and forth just a tiny bit maybe no more than an 8th of an inch. If more than that than you probably have a defective bar. It arrived on time and well packaged. The bar was placed in a plastic bag, in a thick cardboard tube, inside a rectangular box which was placed inside a larger rectangular box. It had a very thin coat of oil on it that was easily removed. The spring clips from my bench bar will not hold firm because of the smooth ends on the curl bar, so I ordered collars that lock firmly into place. The shape is great and although the knurled grip is aggressive I do not need gloves to lift with this bar.
