In fact,, running it with the sides down is a definite no go and IMO could be dangerous and also damage the generator through over heating. Out of curiosity the icing of carbs only seems to happen on plane engines where humidity can be high and temperature very low. It seemed more durable looking to go by the pictures on the Amazon website. When I took it out of the box I was a little disappointed. The frame-works were less hefty than I'd imagine. The material for the actual cover pieces, same. The hook&loop fastners that are used for mounting were a surprise too. I had my tools ready for a job. Didn't use a one. The instructions booklet was full of color pictures with cicles and arrows but the verbiage a bit thin. It took some patience but I ended up with something that looked just like the last picture from the booklet. The cover snugs nicely to the frame sssembly and has hooks and straps for keeping the sides up or down, depending on your current situation. I realize now the lightweight aluminum tubular frames and vinyl materials aren't expedients but design features. Generators are heavy enough. The picture-book instructions and zero-tools required for assembly means just about anyone could put it together and strap it to just about any portable Generator. Minimization of add-on weight means if you could roll yours around before you aren't going to have any trouble with it after you attach the thing. It only added about 2 inches a side to the footprint, so storage space didn't really change either. I also feel that, having bought and attached this cover so I can now safely run my Generator in Savannah GA's sub-tropical storms, the power will never go out again. At least not in the rain. So, no real-world test as yet.
