They hold the AA batteries well, no tendency for the battery to slip out by itself (I have had problems with the AA cell partially popping out of the holder and losing power with other models of battery holder). The plastic is sturdy and grips the batteries well. The springs are good - but, every once in a great while, with a new holder, you have to make sure that the AA battery slides forward all the way and makes contact with the positive side terminal (This is a side effect of how well the sides of the holder grip the AA cells). After some use they holder loosens up and this is not a problem. They have convenient screw holes if you need to screw or bolt the battery holder down.
