I did a little bit of reading on this prior to buying and what I found out was that this Jumpstart Kit was made to allow players to jump into a basic set of scenarios as preparation for the new game. From my understanding back in the 80's there was Cyberpunk the TRPG, then later (the mid ninties I think) they revised the game and furthered the story by releasing Cyberpunk 2020. Now we have the upcoming video game by the creators of The Witcher series releasing (CDProjectRED), Cyberpunk 2077. 2077 is based off the Cyberpunk TRPG and is set even farther in the future than 2020 (Obviously but bear with me). To go along with that the original creators of the Cyberpunk TRPG have advantageously decided to revise the game yet again in preparation for the game and the name of that game *WILL BE* Cyberpunk RED. This is evident by the CDPRojectRed logos on the Jumpstart Kit box (I think it's really cool actually).Keep in mind, RED is not release as of the date of my review, BUT they graciously allowed us players itching to delve into the world early through this Jumpstart Kit! As other reviewers have stated this is not the full meat and potatoes version of the new revision as it's not released. This is a lite version which allows players to easily jump into scenarios and even create their own while gaining a good starting point and knowledge base which we will all see further expanded in the 2077 video game and also with the future revision of the full RED game when released.The box comes with a few maps for play, some cardboard character cutouts and stands (more cutouts than stands sadly), some dice which are SUPER cool (but also kinda not because they are tough to read and involve a symbol as one of the numbers), a series of pre-generated characters involving a the different classes you might play, and two books. One is for gameplay another for lore. The books are softcover and easily readable. The artwork in them is absolutely beautiful especially if you love the setting. The lore in it is fantastic and gives you a really solid idea of what's going on in the world and a general idea of how gameplay will look. Also included in the books are pre-generated scenarios for you to do yourself as well as a little newbie guide to creating your own scenario.I've yet to play the game as I've been concentrating on reading the books to understand the mechanics and world, so I do not have any input on playing it yet. Both myself and my girlfriend are very excited to start playing and eventually livestreaming this game on our Facebook gaming channel. It's not super indepth, but I believe this is a really great way to prime yourself for the upcoming video game as well as have a lot of fun! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Intro To Cyberpunk *by R***E on Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2021* I originally played Cyberpunk 2020 back around 1990 and played it for the next fifteen years, however life got in the way and I haven't played since. However I heard about the new Cyberpunk Red game coming out to coincide with the new Cyberpunk 2077 video game, so I picked a copy up last year and see what's it all about.I'll try to review this as from the POV of a newbie and an experienced player of CP.First a caveat.1. This was released in 2019. One year before the Core rulebook which greatly expands on rules, and worldview. Some rules like combat have been updated in the Core rulebook, so be careful of that.If you are new to Cyberpunk/RPGs or just haven't played in a very long time like me then this is for you.It's got al the dice, maps, rules, and even paper figurines you need to play. I got it for about $26.00 which was a fair price for everything I got.However, if you're an experienced gamer and already have a bunch of dice, maps and miniatures then you probably might want to skip this and just purchase the Core rulebook or even just download the PDF version from Rtalsorian/Drive Thru RPG instead.Now with that said, don't think this is just a streamlined version of CP 2020. CP Red takes place in 2045, about twenty years after the 4th Corporate War. The world is in a depression, the Megacorps are in retreat and even technology like the NET has been greatly downgraded. The rules of CP Red reflect this reality such as Netrunning. With a patchy NET system Netrunners often need to be physically close to the target they want to hack, thus putting in them danger more often.CP Red combat is also simpler. Unlike CP 2020 there are no hit locations and fumble charts to worry about. My only complaint about the Jumpstart Kit is that some classes like the Med Tech is not included, so getting healed is a problem, along with a couple of other rules that come across as vague.I'm looking at getting a campaign started with some new players. I plan on using the Jumpset to test the waters but I'll use the Core rulebook to help fill in the blanks as need for the first few adventures.
