I kid you not, for the first week after we bought it, she, her 4 year old brother, and I would sit around sketching animals for an hour or so at a stretch. It was like we became the Cleavers or something (I've actually never seen Leave it to Beaver, but this is the kind of thing I imagine they would do). The way Emberley breaks it down into easy-to-draw shapes made it easy and fun to do. Our drawings actually looked like the animals we were creating (a new thing for me). Even my 4 year old could do most of them (although he would get frustrated with some of the more complicated ones at the end). And in the following weeks, I'd see my kids trying to draw animals that weren't in the book by putting different shapes together.
