As an aviator, this story confirms things about our aviation regulator that I always thought was true. Read between the lines, industry promotion over flying and public safety is the FAA mandate. Where the deregulated airline industry is concerned, self regulation equals no regulation.

Safer skies
A great insight as to the human side of aviation and how human decisions affect safety. Even more important is a fantastic method as to prevent accidents.

Great Read
Good story, but keep in mind this is a non-fiction narrative of Dave Soucie's experiences. Including an eye opening look at the FAA. If you're just interested in true evaluations of many different aircraft disasters, get "Air Crashes and Miracle Landings" by Christopher Bartlett.

Great book!
I really enjoyed this book. I like to know more about flying since I have a fear of it.

Not accurate to the title
Although the story is not badly told, this is not an account of why planes crash and the state of aviation safety. It is instead a biography and over a third of the book is the author's life before the FAA. A great deal of the book centers on the author's marriage and family as well as personal obstacles - this isn't what I expected, especially when you can find plenty of interviews by the author and he's totally engaging and articulate when actually speaking about aviation accidents and safety...

Never an accident investigator and it shows...
This guy is a JOKE! He was never an investigator, all he ever did was put Safety Seminars together for the FAA. As far as flying goes, he holds a student pilot medical certificate and flew in a plane cockpit. That makes him an " expert " ? He is for sure an expert at using real NTSB investigator's cases and fantasize he was there.

Ego?
Did anyone else reading this book get the feeling the author had difficulties getting along with coworkers and management? I could be wrong... but after so many issues... ya wonder, is it always everyone else?
