In fact, elements of this book have also helped me on other rotations such as pediatrics. I normally do not read books for studying (or at least not in their entirety), but this particular book is an exception! Pros: Fits perfectly in a white coat pocket Excellent questions with concise answers Can be used as a study tool for other rotations Does an excellent job in keeping information simplified Covers a range of topics from general surgery to transplants Mentions learning devices to help in memorizing certain terms or phrases Contains enough information to help prepare for each topic that may be expected Covers everything from the basics of surgery to explaining procedures and treatments Cons: Even though it is over 800 pages, it is meant more as a beginner's guide to each topic The red around "Recall" will rub off with use in a white coat (in about a week about a quarter had worn off) Review: Excellent Reference Book - A quick and handy book that has touches base on about everything I've read in school and then references it to surgery. If you're looking for a book that gives you step by step instructions for performing an operation, I would not recommend this book. But if you're studying for the Boards or in my case the Pance, I highly recommend. Surgery was my final test of the year and I was all studied out. The thought of reading hundreds of pages from Sabiston did not make me happy to say the least. Obviously, it's not nearly as comprehensive, but a surprisingly large percentage of the questions I was asked in my final are answered in the book.
