I thin these with Tamiya X-20 thinner that previously had 10% retarder added to it. I thin at approx 2:1 and spray at around 15psi - I mostly use my Badger 105, Eclipse or Tamiya SF and haven't had any issue with them. You can thin these with any of the following: water, IPA, lacquer thinner or Tamiya but whilst water is best for brushing, it doesn't flow as well as the Tamiya. The lacquer thinners cause these to dry a bit to quick for my taste. Previous posters mention Vallejo's already thinned paint range for airbrushing called 'Model Air'. Be advised though that you are paying the same price for pre thinned paint so it is not the most economical way to go about it (especially with larger subjects like a 1/35 Jagdtiger) and should you wish to adjust your ratio its more difficult with pre thinned. **Q: Paint scrapes off? no matter what i put this paint on it srapes off way to easy. im trying to do plastic models and such but it dosent work.** A: Did you wash your model kit first? Models and some plastic miniatures have mold release agents on them from the manufacturing process, that slight film of release agent can prevent paint from sticking. Just a quick wash in the sink with a small amount of dishwash soap will help. **Q: Are all the colors "flat" or just the ones that say "flat" in the name?** A: All colors are flat finish. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great First Set For Painting Minis *by on Reviewed in the United States July 3, 2026* This set has all the colors I could possibly have wanted for my first paint set.I was amazed at the colors because it has not only all the basic rainbow colors you would want, a brown, a tan-ish cream called Buff, but also black, white, and metallics silver, and gold which are shiny. All the ones you would want,Not only that there's one I originally didn't read the English name of, thinking it was 'just another lighter orange' but it was actually called Flat Flesh which seems to contain a peach-yellow-tan and red pigments that when shaken properly and applied looks like Caucasian skin tone by itself. I had previously been painting skin using Buff shade with either basecoats under or other colors mixed in to look more realistic.I'm a complete beginner, this paint set is perfect for getting into painting miniatures. I don't really have the artistic background to compare, but I think the consistency of the paints is smooth and it comes out of the bottles easy in just the right amount because they have a small dropper nozzle tip.I would recommend this to others, and have praised it to friends.Vallejo paints were as good and as easy to work with as I'd heard. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Game changer! *by on Reviewed in the United States August 25, 2025* My very first set of quality paints! I can’t believe I waited so long to splurge on them! I was previously using the same watered down acrylics I’ve had for years (generic store brand) but these are simply amazing!!! The coverage is spectacular! One coat is adequate. Drying time is slightly longer than generic paints, but well worth the wait! Colors are rich and vibrant! Paints flow smoothly and mix together well. I use these for all sorts of miniatures. They’re very easy to use on many textures. Paper, plastic, wire, wood… and I didn’t even use a primer. Very nice! Worth the price!!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy to use, good quality paints *by on Reviewed in the United States July 25, 2019* I'd heard good things about this particular set, and I decided to get this for my start into miniature painting. The paints themselves have pretty good coverage, if not on the first coat, then definitely on the second or third, depending how dark your undercoat is and how much you thin the paints.The metallics (silver and gold) have been working pretty well, though I notice they do separate if you leave some out on your wet pallet overnight. Mixes back up fairly well afterward in spite of that.The set comes with 16 colors, and I think what's included is all I really need. If I need something that's not quite in the box, it's very easy to mix these up on the pallet to get exactly what I want.
