## Description

The My Weigh KD-8000 scale is the perfect scale which includes a removable Protective LCD Display Cover (as well as three Soft Protective LCD Display Covers) which helps protect against many weighing messes such as recipes, candle-making, spills and more! Not many scales in its class can match up to the reputation and features of the KD-8000; the biggest change from the KD-7000 to the KD-8000 is the new Baker’s Math/Percentage Weighing function. This has been a long-standing way for bakers to weigh their ingredients in proportion to their main ingredient (flour). This feature is the preferred method for bakers for the simple fact that it eliminates messy math that comes with weighing in teaspoons, cups, etc. – instead you deal with just percentage. Also, measuring this way allows for you to make as little or as much as you want easier. Now that’s the easiest weigh to go about baking, isn’t it? This is a MUST-HAVE for any aspiring or professional baker! Weighing Modes Pounds / Ounces - (Capacity) 17lbs. 9oz. - (Resolution) 0.05 oz. Pounds - (Capacity) 17.620 lbs. - (Resolution) 0.002 lb. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this scale "time out" and turn itself off? If so, how long does it take for it to time out?**
A: Oddly the instructions to program the scale auto shut off time is not in the manual that came with the scale. But I found a manual online which has the instructions to change this setting. Here's a slightly edited typed excerpt from the manual I found online.Weight Response Speed And Auto Turn-OffPress and hold the HOLD & POWER button. Wait for the 5 second countdown to complete. You will begin in Weight Respone Speed settings. Press MODE to cycle between the following options, nb0 (longest) nb1 (intermediate) nb2 (fastest). Press TARE to select an option. I left mine at the default nb0 as I want accurate readings. Once we've selected the Weight Response Speed we are put in the Auto Turn-Off settings. The default is OFF 1 (2 minutes), OFF 2 (5 minutes), OFF 0 (Disabled as in the scale will stay on forever or till the batteries die or AC adapter is unplugged, or if you're nice, you turn off the power).Hope that helps some people =)

**Q: What is the voltage and minimum current requirement for the scale?**
A: As you probably know, this scale runs on three AA batteries. The power adapter (search Amazon.com for: "AC Adapter For My Weigh 7000g and 300g Scales") has a non-polarized standard two prong American plug. This adapter will run on 100VAC-240VAC 50/60Hz and draws 0.3A. The adapter output is 5VDC at 300MA. Note: Although this adapter is made for American receptacles, it could of course be fitted with an adapter for another other country as long as the input is adhered to. Hope this helps!

**Q: What are the dimensions of this scale?**
A: If you Google the product, you can find manufacturer's page with all info on scale.http://www.myweigh.com/kd8000.html

**Q: Does anyone have a link for where I can purchase the plug-in cord for this?**
A: Yes! Here it is......... http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/ OR eBay..............http://www.ebay.com/itm/AC-Adapter-7001DX-3001P-KD7000-KD8000-i300-U2-/380263866163?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D4439758670779956792%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D380263866163%26 Either way, you would be ordering from the same seller. However, ordering through eBay is $0.20 more.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Great Digital Kitchen Scale that Avoids every common Pitfall
*by on Reviewed in the United States July 25, 2018*

Digital scales are inexpensive for the central role they play in a kitchen. You could get a perfectly adequate one for $15 or $20. But if you step up to this, you can get rid of all the little annoyances that are ubiquitous among cheaper digital kitchen scales. For me, the primary killer feature of this scale is that you can configure it to disable the terrible omnipresent auto-shutoff "feature" that loses so many measurements during time consuming cooking tasks. The batteries last a long time anyway, it's a completely unnecessary anti-feature that consistently results in having to duplicate work (or worse, destroys a measurement that you can't do over again because you've already combined ingredients). Sure, you could record all of your measurements elsewhere, but why? Having to do so is annoying with perpetually wet kitchen hands, and It's not necessary with this scale. I haven't lost a single measurement in the 8 months I've had it.I also like the option to use an A/C adapter (sold separately). Some people may not have the counter space or available outlets for this, but I happen to, so this thing has a permanent place on my counter top. Likewise, I like the size of this scale, though it may be problematic for people with very limited counter space or low hanging cabinets. The bulk keeps it from tipping over when weighing oddly shaped items. The large footprint easily accommodates every large item I've had occasion to weigh on it. And the extra height and angled display is great for measuring things like baking sheets or bulky boxes. The biggest negative is that it oddly didn't seem to come with the instructions necessary to turn off the auto shutoff feature. This is a big oversight as it's the best feature of the scale. Also the procedure is arcane enough that I can't reproduce it here from memory. I was able to find instructions by searching the internet. It was very much worth the effort, but I hope they improve this situation if they haven't done so since I bought it.I would definitely recommend this scale to everyone who can fit it on their counter permanently. It's actually not all that heavy but I think it is very useful to keep a scale on your counter. If I could permanently fit a smaller scale but not this one, I'd have to consider it, but it would be hard not to go with this scale anyway.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ OK, I didn't buy this for baking.....or cooking. But it works great for measuring weight at the gram level.
*by on Reviewed in the United States April 5, 2017*

OK, I didn't buy this for baking.....or cooking. But it works great for measuring weight at the gram level. I'm a backpacker trying to find the sweet spot between having necessities with me in the back country, comfort, and carrying the lightest pack possible. So, I finally bought a scale to really find out what my decisions were either buying me or costing me in terms of weight for each individual item.My criteria were......1.) A scale with enough range to handle all my gear. I thought 11 lb scales would be operating too close to their upper limit at times.2.) Gram level capability with reasonable accuracy. I don't need a scientific instrument but I don't want to be off 10% either.3.) A display that can be read with large items on the scale. So a vertical display or detachable display was almost mandatory.4.) Reasonable price. This is a fun thing for me. Curiosity. I wanted something that wouldn't break the bank.5.) Reasonable size. I don't want to take up a closet shelf for a scale I'm going to use 4 times per year.6.) Ease of operation. I did not want to become a scale expert in order to weigh stuff. So how did this scale meet my criteria?1.) 8 kg or ~17 lbs seems to provide plenty of range. The heaviest item in my pack is a 10 lb tent.2.) This provides grams, oz, lbs & oz, and %.....in short more than I need.3.) The display is readable with any of the stuff I need to measure on the scale.4.) I bought this for about $36 on Amazon. It doesn't seem unreasonable at all.5.) The size is actually smaller than I was expecting and the weight is lighter as well.6.) Very simple to operate with 5 simple buttons. So, how does it work? Very well. It's quick and easy to power up and it stabilizes quickly to show the weight of an object. I can weigh stuff fast. The accuracy seems excellent with one caveat. As I've read in other reviews, at the very low end it seems to have a limit of about 3 grams. For instance, if I place one facial tissue on the scale it reads 0 grams. If I add a second tissue, it will read 3 grams. I think this is simply a resolution issue at the very lowest end of the scale's range. For instance, I placed a tube of face cream on the scale and it read 61 grams. I then placed one of the facial tissues on the scale and the reading increased to 63 grams. So it will register the weight of one tissue. I added the second tissue and it increased to 64 grams. So the two tissues together still registered 3 grams. Given this scale can only register full gram changes in weight, I think the 3 gram limit at the lower end is partially due to a very slight inaccuracy at the extreme bottom end of its range and its design capability of full gram resolution. My guess is that the facial tissues weigh something like 1.3 - 1.6 grams each. In short, this scale is accurate enough for my needs. If you need to measure down to 1 gram, simply put a plate on the scale and tare it out before adding your 1 gram of stuff. Limitation eliminated. One nice feature that wasn't part of my criteria is the splash shield that covers the control panel. That seems like it could be very useful if you are working around food. But even for storage, It means the controls and display won't get abused in a cabinet or closet.I'm very happy with this scale.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great scale for the price
*by on Reviewed in the United States October 15, 2013*

I purchased this scale to place in the kitchen. My old scale took at least five seconds to get a reading, so I replaced it with a legal-for-trade scale, but I just felt uneasy having a $300 scale in the kitchen. So I bought this.First, I'm a stickler for accuracy. It is unacceptable to me to have a scale be off by 1 division point. For example, if I place a 1 kg weight on a scale and it reads anything other than 1.000 kg, I will not be happy unless I can recalibrate it.This scale, out of the box, read a few grams off when I applied a 1 kg weight. Not a huge deal, and honestly, not a problem for regular kitchen use, but me being me, I had to calibrate it. So, I recalibrated my legal-for-trade scale and filled a pot of water until it read 5,000 g. I used that as my calibration weight. The scale has read exact ever since as long as the weight is placed in the center of the platform.***Build quality - not so great. This thing feels cheap. The plastic cover is the most annoying thing I have ever seen in my life. The box also includes what are supposed to be covers that are meant to cover the display and buttons and allow you to press the buttons through it. I'm not entirely sure how they're supposed to work, as they're just big enough to cover the protrusion around the display and controls. They fall off just being put on. If I accidentally destroy this scale with food, I'll just buy another one. I have a spare scale I can use, so it won't really be a problem, and it's definitely cheap enough.***Other notes: I adjusted the option for auto-shut-off. I've made it a habit to turn it off when I'm done. No biggie.***TL;DRThis scale is great for the price. The company has sacrificed build quality for component quality. It feels cheap when you pick it up, but it maintains calibration well. Take off the plastic cover. It's useless.Update Oct 27 2013: I tested the scale yesterday the 26th, and it was off by 1 g at 2000 g. It read 1999, so it became very slightly out of calibration. So it will eventually need calibration to remain very accurate. Still, this is overall very good accuracy for the price. It took a couple months to lose that minute amount.Update Feb 6 2019: This scale is starting to have problems. The backlight is beginning to flicker sometimes even with new batteries. It's still just as accurate as ever, even after falling top-down to the floor during the 7.0 Alaska earthquake a few months ago. 5+ years on a $35 scale that's used multiple times daily? That's a 100% win in my book. Adjusted my rating to 5 stars from 4.
