Other than the artwork, this book is nothing like that series. If you're expecting some cutesy book, you're in the wrong place.Lost at Sea follows the character of Raleigh, an overly timid young teen who is completely at a loss as to who she is. She claims to have no soul, a result of certain actions occurring in her youth. Raleigh finds herself on a car trip with three of her classmates at her school, unsure as to how to interact with them. But as the miles pass by, Raleigh will find herself opening up to her fellow passengers about herself, her doubts & her life.I really loved this book. I'll admit, it was a bit slow to get into, but it really was a fantastic read. The artwork is all wonderful, which is something I've come to expect from O'Malley throughout the years. I loved how some of the most serious issues in the book- most notably the one major reason why Raleigh is the way she is- are all done subtly. It's up to the reader as to whether or not they pick up on the smaller details. If you aren't careful, you'll miss an entire element of the book that'll take the story to a whole new level.I would honestly recommend this to anyone who loves a good indie comic. Again, I'll warn the Scott Pilgrim fans that this is a very serious book, so if you are looking for laughs & cute stuff, you may want to pass this one by. I hope you give it a real chance, as this truly is a book worth reading & sharing with your friends. One thing I'll add to this review is that if you like his work, you should also check out his work in the Hopeless-Savages series. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ You'll Have To "Sea" For Yourself *by on Reviewed in the United States August 29, 2015* I've collected a few graphic novels since I first bought and got to read this one when I was 17 (that's like, a couple years ago), but I know it was instantly one of my favorite stories the first time I read it and after finishing it again tonight I thought I'd leave a review. This book is really good, it's the kind that I'm so happy that I got to experience it I'd like to be able to have someone to talk to about it, but I also don't want anyone else to read it either. I get that a lot with good books, it's the same feeling I had about The Eleventh Plague, The Curiosities, and The Book of Lost Things. I can't put it into words, but I kind of feel like I could be the main character? It's like, easy to relate to Raleigh for me even thought we look different and we're from different places. So really, this is still one of my favorite books after all the new books I've discovered since first reading it. It's the kind of book that makes you feel less lonely because it shows that there are other people who feel the same way and think the same things. If you can, Lost At Sea for yourself. It's a really human book, and I think you'll like it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A nice read with a lesson to teach *by on Reviewed in the United States July 31, 2019* To be honest, there's really not much to say about this book. It tells a simple story with some typical teenage interactions and angst. Putting that aside, I read it in one sitting and it left me thinking for a bit about the universal trials of life, especially when you are a young adult. The ending, in my opinion, was quite vague and I have questions without satisfying answers, but I guess that was the point. Sometimes things happen and you have these feelings and you have no idea why and you want to find answers and depending on a physical or somewhat surreal solution, but that may not be the case.You may never get the straight answer and you have to deal with it, so yeah. A good story.
