Review: Switch to automatic feeding with this... - So about six months ago I switched to automatic feeders (compared to hand feeding) and have bought about 6 of these devices (all for different tanks) as my daily drivers. I believe over this course of time I can list a few pros and cons about this product that I think you should think about. Pros: 1) Simplicity - this product is super simple to manage and program. I lost the owners manuals a couple of months ago and honestly with three to four buttons, you don't really need the manual to figure out how to program this device. Also the amount regulator is really easy to adjust (tiny plastic door) depending on the quantity of food you want to distribute. I like to err on the side of less, and just increase the # of revolutions if I feel the fish need more. 2) Consistency - this was a huge reason for me to switch to automatic feeders. I am a sucker to over-feeding, and working with mostly nano tanks, I have gone through every problem that too much food can bring. From algae, to smelly water, to fat fish, to being tempted into an extra pinch of food for entertainment's sake, yeah I made all those mistakes and paid for every single one of them. Now I can go weeks without ever touching the fish food which gives me a baseline to adjust the amount if I need to. It also helps me diagnose problems without worrying about the variable of over-feeding as a cause. 3) Dependability - been using this device for months without a hitch. Mainly I wanted to use this as a helper during vacations, but I wanted to make sure it would do the job while I was watching it. Sure enough, after a couple of months I never ran into a technical problem with this product. Also the 'dissolving' food option for vacationers seemed like a cheaper route, but the reviews I read about those products, scared me away with putting so many extra chemicals into the water (btw when you are away for multiple weeks you probably aren't going to have someone do water changes). Cons: (yes I still would give this product 5 stars) 1) Different types of food - will require a second feeder. I have corys and gouramis in the same tank so I need two of these devices to make sure both get the food they need. For the gouramis I have flake food, but for the corys I have sinking pellets. I have thought about mixing the two together and having just one device, but I realized earlier on that the consistency would seriously fail if I tried this. 2) Food of different sizes - could get stuck. So this doesnt really matter for flake food, but if you have bettas and the pellets are of different sizes then you might want to switch to flakes. If you leave the door to tight, the large particles could get stuck and block the food from coming out, but if you open the door too wide, you could end up dropping too much food. Bottom line, unless the pellets are consistently the same size, go for the flake food AND err on the side of not dropping a lot of food. 3) Moisture - don't place over an air stone or HOB filter. I learned this the hard way coming back from a one week vacation. I positioned the feeder over an airstone, and the water splashes ended around and inside the container. After a week all the food was rotten and was caked into the feeder (the fish were fasting for quite a few days). Rachel O'leary mentioned this, that if you have a really moist or humid fish room, you shouldn't use fish feeders at all, and I totally agree with her. But keeping the feeder away from my HOB filter and air stone was perfect in keeping all of the food dry for weeks upon weeks. 4) Forgetting - to change or re-fill food. This is a great problem to have btw, but I do forget to refill or adjust the programming base on my fish stock at the moment. For example, if I move a whole mess of fish out of a tank and forget to adjust the amount of food dropped, then I can easily run into a problem of over-feeding. While this is clearly an operator's error, a practice not done everyday is easy to forget. Those are my thoughts on this feeder, even with all the cons to keep in mind, I would definitely give this product 5 stars and I will continue to buy only this brand because it works for me. Please note that I have not used any other brand, but I did comb through all the reviews before settling on this device and I think the pros greatly outweigh my concerns. Hope this review helped.
Review: High quality product, but died after only six years ;^> - UPDATE: The new model comes with an excellent, full-color Quick Start Set-Up Guide, with pictures, that clearly explains how to set up the clock and timers. I'd add an extra star, but I already gave it five. I like this so much, that I'm ordering a new Eheim Everyday Automatic Fish Feeder in January 2024 since the one I bought in 2017 stopped working. Pros: This is a high-quality product. It's very reliable. It's flexible in both the number of feedings per day and the size of the feedings. A tiny fan in the unit blows air through the feed while the feeding drum spins to help keep the food dry. You can feed up to four times a day. You set the size of all feedings by changing the size of the opening on the feed drum. Batteries last a couple of years. Cons: It's a little difficult to figure out how to set it up using the set, program, and + buttons. You set the clock time, then set the times for up to four feedings per day. Then, for each feeding time, set the number of feedings (rotations of the feeding drum to dump food in the tank). Once you learn what the buttons do and what order to set them, it's do-able. The timer's the old-fashioned version that only goes up, so if you go past your desired time, you have to run it all the way around the clock. I recommend this feeder, obviously, since I'm ordering a new one to replace my 6-year-old one that no longer turns. I use two on my 55-gallon tank in case one stops working as just happened. Eheim makes a Wi-Fi version with an app that may be easier to program, but it's not available in the US and will likely be expensive. There are cheaper copies of this device on the market, but I trust Eheim's quality, and the copies may not have features like the fan that helps keep the food dry.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the smallest amount of food you can dispense? What is the area of the opening on its smallest setting?**
A: I recommend using pellets instead of flakes if you want to feed only a small amount each time. I have four of these (90g, 75g, and two 29g tanks). To feed less than the first "click" setting, I simply placed the opening where I wanted it and taped it in place with a little bit of scotch tape. That allows me to not overfeed the smaller tanks.I learned to tape the setting on all my feeders after one of my cats accidentally moved the setting on one of my 29g tanks. I didn't catch the problem until the water had fowled. I cleaned up the mess, but that tank has never been the same ever since. Now I have all of my feeders taped to their settings so they can't be accidentally changed by a stray bump. It also ensures that I don't accidentally mess with the setting when I clean and refill them.

**Q: can i use this auto feeder for 1month?**
A: For a 29 gallon tank I bought 2 of these and have one feed in the morning and one in the evening. That way if something happens to one of them the fish will at least get fed once per day. I take a 2-3 week trip every year and never had a problem with this feeder. Most fish can survive a week or two without food, the bigger threat to them is over feeding. Better to feed smaller amounts twice per day. I also put a corner filter in the tank in addition to the external filter when I'm away for more than a week. It adds aeration should something happen to clog the main filter.

**Q: How does this feeder mount on an aquarium?**
A: It's got a weighted end and a dispenser end.. The dispenser end is the one that rotates to let the feed out. You just need to either keep on top of aquarium and make sure the feeder end has an opening on the aquarium top for it to go in OR there is a mechanism to mount it from the inside also. I just keep it on the top.

**Q: Does this feeder feed multiple times a day or just once?**
A: Units sold in 2019 have up to 4 feeding times, and each can be set for from 1 to 2 rotations (dispensing of food).
I tested how much Koi sticks (T3tra) fills it and how many rotations of the container to empty it. I fit 30 grams of sticks in the chamber (don't pack it tightly). It took 26 rotations to (near) empty with the opening at max. At 2 rotations 4 times a day, it would take about 3 and a half days to empty, at max opening, for koi sticks. So at most 8-9g of koi sticks per day.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for nano tanks - Adjustable for various amounts and food sizes
*by A***. on October 30, 2023*

TL;DR: adjustable for both size and amounts , up to four feedings per day, good for any size tank. Will buy again. Full Review: I was looking for an auto feeder that could handle periods of over two weeks for small minimally stocked tanks (two small clownfish and some inverts). The eheim everyday works beautifully. The adjustable doser door allows for fine enough tuning that I can feed a half dozen or so tiny pellets (new life spectrum marine fish - less than 1mm each) to larger flake foods or turtle pellets for my other tanks. The system allows you to program up to four feeding times per day (you can also set it to turn twice at any feeding time, doubling the amount fed) If you want to manually feed, the Eheim logo on the feeder is also a manual feed button, causing the feeder to rotate once feeding the tank. I strongly recommend loading the feeder and testing it off the tank (maybe over a plastic container to catch any food) so that you can figure out how far to open the doser. (You don’t want to accidentally flood your tank with food) On that same note, be careful when removing the food container, ensuring that the lid stays on the food container (and not the motor side) so that the food doesn’t accidentally come pouring into your tank. The included clamp mount fit my rimless all in one shrimp pico tank perfectly, but required some modification for my rimmed 15 gal because I also use a glass lid over most of it to reduce evaporation. The solution was simple and can be seen in the attached video. I simply attached a piece of plastic to the auto feeder and the included tank clamp using the included screws and a bit of Velcro (I’ll probably replace it with the industrial Velcro). This setup allows me to adjust the position of the feeder so that it drops in the narrow gap that I have available without interfering with my light. It comes packaged with two AA batteries, though I don’t know how long they will last. I will run them until they run out and decide what to use. ( I’ll likely replace them with enloop rechargeable AA batteries for reliability) All in all, I’m very happy with this feeder, and will likely be getting more for my other tanks.
