You can either use it to play those old tapes from back in the day or use it as a radio. It is a nice durable piece by Sony, and I had chosen this item, because I found Sony brand to be one of my most trusted for electronics. It worth every buck I had ever invested in buying it . You will never regret this purchase if you’re looking for a radio that picks up AM and FM frequency and play your traditional tapes, it does those function I mentioned. Happy Purchase!! Review: It stopped working after being used a few times - Very unhappy. I had previously had Sony’s equivalent version of this recorder for many years and when it no longer worked I ordered this one. Had it for about nine months and used it 4 times. Then I started to take it to weekly chorus rehearsals. It worked for three weeks then while in the record mode it would turn itself off. I tried replacing the tapes and it did the same thing repeatedly. Useless now. Can’t find a place to repair. And compared to other recorders is costly. Most unhappy and really can’t return it because I’ve had it too long. ## Features - Modern desktop cassette recorder with built-in microphone - 3-digit tape counter for easier searching - Earphone jack; microphone jack - Full automatic shut-off releases the buttons in play, record, FF and rewind modes to save wear and batteries - Runs on 4 AA batteries or with included AC adaptor ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B00001ZT4H | | Battery Average Life | 8.5 hours | | Best Sellers Rank | #268,635 in Electronics ( See Top 100 in Electronics ) #280 in Portable Cassette Players & Recorders | | Brand | Sony | | Compatible Devices | MP3 Player | | Customer Reviews | 3.3 out of 5 stars 159 Reviews | | Digital Recording Time | 8 hours | | Format | Unknown format | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00027242485860 | | Hardware Interface | 3.5mm Audio | | Headphones Jack | 3.5 millimeters | | Item Dimensions D x W x H | 4"D x 5"W x 12"H | | Item Weight | 2.5 pounds | | Manufacturer | Sony | | Memory Storage Capacity | 32 GB | | Mfr Part Number | TC-M929 | | Microphone Form Factor | Built-In | | Microphone Operation Mode | Mono | | Model Number | TC-M929 | | Number of Batteries | 2 AA batteries required. | | Number of Items | 1 | | Screen Size | 4 inches | | UPC | 027242485860 | | Unit Count | 1 Count | | Warranty Description | One year parts, 90 days labor | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Sony - **Compatible Devices:** MP3 Player - **Format:** Unknown format - **Hardware Interface:** 3.5mm Audio - **Headphones Jack:** 3.5 millimeters - **Item Weight:** 2.5 pounds - **Memory Storage Capacity:** 32 GB - **Microphone Form Factor:** Built-In - **Number of Batteries:** 2 AA batteries required. - **Product Dimensions:** 4"D x 5"W x 12"H ## Images ![Sony TCM-929 Pressman Desktop Cassette Recorder with Automatic Shut-Off - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51RlQduDblL.jpg) ![Sony TCM-929 Pressman Desktop Cassette Recorder with Automatic Shut-Off - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/415AC96AYML.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Customer Package Type** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: Im wanting something to transfer old tapes to cd's -that isnt so expensive but still good sound** A: get a ''tape2pc'' made by*ion. you can transfer into a computer or it transfers tape to a new tape. its very high quality.once you put your cassettes into a pc laptop you can burn them onto cds too. **Q: Hi! Can you use this to record music onto a cassette from a computer i.e. via the microphone jack into the computer's speaker jack?** A: Not sure. I think there's a 1/8" mic line in. You could likely finagle that somehow. It's primarily a table top mono recorder, though. It's definitely not hi-fi. **Q: Why is this cassette recorder so expensive? Is it a professional quality "news reporter" machine?** A: The one I have listed is a little over $18. Not too bad compared to the brand new in box one priced at 199.99. **Q: Can it work solely on the batteries without the Dc in 6v power plug?** A: Hi Camila hernandez, Yes, it will work with batteries only. I had previously had Sony’s equivalent version of this recorder for many years and when it no longer worked I ordered this one. Had it for about nine months and used it 4 times. I needed something quick and easy to use. I have gone through countless CD/Cassette players that break down within a year. Plus, to find one now that has a built in mic is almost impossible, so I was very happy to find this product. I have only had it for a few weeks, but so far it has been a God-sent. The minute I hear a song forming within my mind I can quickly grab the unit, flip it on and I'm set to go. Great! No more lost songs floating around the atmosphere but now they are safe on my cassette until I am ready to transfer them. It is also great to use during church meeting when you want to be able to record either the sermon or some other happening so you can reflect back on it at a later time.My granddaughter had fun recording her voice the other day and other sounds as well..... This little guy has countless uses and it is sturdy, well made and very easy to use. I like it and will write another review in a year and let you know how well it held up to the often use it will definitely receive. ## Frequently Bought Together - Sony TCM-929 Pressman Desktop Cassette Recorder with Automatic Shut-Off - Maxell UR 90 Normal Bias Blank Audio Recording Cassette Tape, Low Noise, 90 Minute Recording Time, 5 Pack - Sony 5C90HFR 90-Minute HF Cassette Recorders 5-Brick --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.ec/products/1146255-sony-tcm-929-pressman-desktop-cassette-recorder-with-automatic-shut](https://www.desertcart.ec/products/1146255-sony-tcm-929-pressman-desktop-cassette-recorder-with-automatic-shut) --- *Product available on Desertcart Ecuador* *Store origin: EC* *Last updated: 2026-10-11*
