tracking sucks.
This does not track the low notes well, even though it claims to be for bass. Does not track fast notes, but detects ghost notes.

Does what it was made for; well, kinda.
Currently, this is the most cost effective solution for bassists to convert audio to MIDI and it's a single box.To make this useful, I ran the MIDI to an interface to my computer (MacOSX with Reason ver5). I installed MIDIPipe which allows you to do some MIDI corrections that I believe are necessary for what I do. Here's a list of what I do in MIDIPipe:- I first transpose all notes up one full octave (so I can play in the lower register)- I filter out all velocities less than 30 (think of this as gating unwanted MIDI notes)- I expand(term might not be correct) all velocities so they are in a narrow range (ie: 80-120)- I split the B2M's monophonic channel 1 to multiple channels (ie: channels 1-4). This allows me to send MIDI notes to multiple soft synth modules. I can then easily mute/unmute certain patches.Tips: Play only one note cleanly; mute all other strings. Use for bass synths, string swellsProduct not useful for playing notes greater than quarters at 120bpm. Latency becomes to big an issue.Overall the product works. Use it with MIDIPipe or equivalent and for certain sounds only.

This is unusable
I am not new to Guitar to MIDI conversion. I was hoping to use this with my bass to trigger an analog bass synth to mix in with the analog sound. Unfortunately, I got more incorrect notes than not. The low E string actually responded the best, but playing notes on the higher 3 strings would trigger bad notes. I can't see any use at all for this device. I sent it back for a refund. I thought maybe the unit was defective, but after reading the other reviews, I realize that it's just a crappy product.

Get what you pay for
I found this product to be marginally useable. Yes, it provides extremely fast tracking for bass guitar - faster than most other products including my Roland GR-55 with a GK pickup and in bass mode. However, the tracking is very glitchy, likely due to the manufacturer trying to provide extremely fast tracking thus it's picking up every little change in timbre while the note rings out and every little accidental string brush, etc. Thus it requires extremely top notch playing technique - clean picking or fingering, full muting of all unused strings, etc. more so than similar products. I never personally found it usable for any type of lead sounds or playing that required repetitive notes. I've heard from a couple of other users that say it works great if you relegate it to pad-type sounds which have very slow attack, thus masking the glitching.

I works but more of a toy if anything.
I am a bass player that thought it would be amazing to be able to play my synths through this box. The truth is it works, but being a bass player of 12 years it does not capture the basslines with the precision I thought it would. Every note needs to be played very exact and it gives kind of a sound that is not like the same one would get pounding out a synthline through a keyboard. It does not capture the dynamics well. With that being said it's hard to make synth lines with any type of feeling or your own touch to it. Anyway this would only really be good to one who only knows how to play bass and does not want to touch a keyboard.

$100 Worth of Bass Guitar to MIDI Conversion
I purchased this item from Amazon.com to convert my analog bass guitar sound to MIDI. The instructions were great and the setup was simple. I tested the item several times with poor results. I was unable to completely mute my strings between each note while playing at higher tempos. The pitch and timing was tracked poorly on nearly one out of five notes. I tried changing how I play with no improvement. After several days I returned the item and have abandoned my goal of using my bass as a MIDI controller until I am able to install a MIDI pickup with a matching converter/synthesizer.This item is worth exactly what it costs. It is the most basic and cheapest MIDI converter. I encourage others to try it as my results may not be typical.

Move along, nothing to see here.
Tried 4 different basses, active/active, active/passive, passive/passive, trying all at different gain and tone levels. All gave more bad triggers than good and the "good" notes triggered were randomly changing octave. Boards were Nord Electro 3, Korg X50 and a Yamaha elec piano. Gets one star for only raping me for $100.

Okay - but doesn't compare to an AXON
I evaluated this side by side with an Axon midi converter and there's no comparison. This is more of a toy - a gimmick - it's works but not good enough to record or perform live. There's consistent latency and mistaken notes. If you've never used an Axon - you might be okay with this - but if you've used an Axon then really, it means you won't be happy. It's fun to mess with for an hour or two - but not good enough to use seriously.
