Droll Yankees New Generation Tube Feeder, Sunflower or Mixed Seed Bird Feeder, 8-Inches, Green

We use this with a small tray and fill the tube with dried meal worms. With a rain baffle it’s nearly squirrel proof. Brings us a lot of bluebirds. With the tray and some seeds, it also brings in cardinals.

The size is fine but a small red squirrel found how to get to this feeder. I counteracted that with a little crisco on the pole it was hanging from.

I ordered this feeder a couple months ago. I have it on a long hook on a second story porch.Raccoons have knocked it off and it has fallen several times when I have forgotten to take it in at night.Last week after another fall from about 20ft one of the perches was damaged. Totally my fault because of the raccoon situation. I looked on Droll Yankee website and I was going to pay for a replacement piece. Turns out that was the one thing that I was not able to order.I contacted DY through their email on website and sent them a photo of the piece that was broken. Within a few hours I had a response and they mailed me the new piece free of charge.Fantastic customer service! It is obviously very sturdy and well designed, I can't imagine another feeder that wouldn't be smashed dropping from 20 ft or so. This one handled it well several times!

I originally purchased this feeder to tuck away in a corner of my garden where the neighborhood squirrels might not find it. I chose it for its size, and because it is easy to fill. When I realized that there were no feeders for the birds beyond my fence (in our condo common area) I hung it on a tree outside, for all to enjoy. In less than an hour it has been emptied by lots of happy birds. I have never been able to determine how they can so quickly discover new sources of food, and I'm happy to have been so obliging.

I purchased this feeder to replace a really old one just like it. The old one was fabulous, but the wire hanger bent way out of shape when my whole feeder pole blew over during a major storm. I fill it with nyjer seed for my goldfinches. Nyjer seed does not last when it gets wet, as it will grow mold easily. This little feeder fits perfectly under the rain dome. The finches love it!

I'm not a bird, so do I know what it's like to eat from this thing... But it's constantly under attack by many different feathered friends. I got the additional perches, and the additional OMNI (?) tray.The TRAY was a GREAT add. Some birds peck and pull seeds out, spilling them to the tray, and other birds just eat from the tray. We've seen many different types of birds already.With the tray the perches are a bit of an over kill, but again, I've seen birds on them, feeding. Seeds still hit the ground but far less, and we've seen as many as 5 birds on the feeder at one time with the tray.Super happy.

Nothing special about this bird feeder. On the positive side, it's easy to fill, & the seed stays dry when it rains. I don't think it's worth the price, though. It doesn't hold much seed, & the perches are short & thin. Even finches had a difficult time perching long enough to grab a seed or two. I ended up adding a bit of a wooden dowel to each perch to make it sturdier, then wrapped twine around. Even with that, most birds go to our other feeder.

Droll Yankee feeders are a bit pricey but worth every cent. They are top quality and should last for many years!
