Provided it is fastened in place properly it should do the job. **Q: Will water pass through it** A: Yes water will pass through, the holes are very small - a fly wouldn’t get through - but water from the tap does **Q: Is it budgie safe?** A: I don’t know if it’s budgie safe I used it to make a lied for a chameleon enclosure although quite flimsy and easily to make holes in so it could pec a hole but not sure **Q: would it stand up on it's own if I make it into a cylinder to plant flowers in?** A: Hi I can give you my thoughts on this ...... I think it would depend on if you wanted it to last any length of time or not and how big your cylinders are ....... but these are guess answers.... The mesh is a bit fragile in a lot of ways - bend it too often or put it under too much strain and it will start to break - so if you want to use it at its full width 50cm and create a 15cm diameter tall thin cylinder using a double thickness of wire for a display (weekend show etc) using fresh compost) I think it could work - but I am not sure if you wanted to cut into the cylinder and plant into the sides - it may be a bit weak.... if you want to create a 45cm diameter cylinder x the 50cm height and push one end into the ground it would not be strong enough to a) be pushed into the ground or b) structurally hold a large quantity of soil back especially if you want to cut into the sides and plant into them ...... If you just want to make small cylinder shapes 25 - 30cm height 10cm diameter you may get away with it if your end plants were not to heavy (just a guess at the sizes....) They do make this type of thing in steel I think- it is (a more substantially stronger mesh anyway) The aluminium mesh is very flexible and light weight - you could use multiple layers to give it more substance - or use canes to support the structures - If you do give it a try with either of the types of wire mesh wear tough gloves if you can work in them because it will shred your hands on any cut edges...... Hope this gives you some idea as to how strong / flexible this mesh is I have used it to create skull and body shapes on wire skeletons of animals - so its really flexible and I stitch it together with aluminium wire (0.5mm) but using a much thicker (2.5mm - 4.25) wire to give the sculpture a structural strength and shape......
