LiftMaster Receiver and Remote Bundle, Lift Master Universal 850LM + 811LM

Review: Simple solution to connect Homelink to old garage door openers - I still have 1980s vintage Sears Craftsman garage door openers in my garage. Stray radio frequencies from passing cars can sometimes open the doors, but the openers have a "security switch" that can disable the remote function. I keep this switch permanently on and instead have been using an add-on Skylink remote system connected to the wall mounted buttons that allows me to transmit remote signals to the opener with more secure rolling code frequencies. This has been a great way to avoid having to replace the openers entirely, but the Skylink remotes have very weak range and the Skylink system is not compatible with the built-in Homelink remote transmitters in my newer Honda cars. So my next plan was to have the Homelink buttons communicate with my home automation system, which could then open the garage doors through a z-wave signal to the Go Control garage controllers I had recently installed on the openers. However, getting Homelink to talk to my Vera, or any other z-wave network for that matter, requires installing a now-discontinued third party device and a small amount of coding, which according to some blog posts, sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. This Lift Master 850LM device replaces the Skylink system on my openers and lets me connect securely using rolling codes with the Homelink buttons in my cars. The range is also a lot better. It has 3 channels so I can set up both of my garage doors on a single device. The wiring is very straightforward but the pairing with Homelink is a little complicated. You need to have a remote (I bought the cheapest Lift Master 811LM model) to pair with the 850LM which you then use to pair with the Homelink buttons in your car. There are detailed directions on this pairing procedure that you can Google. It's not as simple as the pairing of the remote to the 850LM, but involves a number of button sequences including the learn button on the 850LM. In the end, everything works perfectly and I'm very happy.
Review: Long range and simple configuration - Simple to program and works flawlessly! Signal strength is amazing! I can open and close my garage door from over 50 yards away while in the house. Over 100 yards range outside.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this a universal receiver?**
A: Yes

**Q: Can you program this unit to work for 3 garage doors openers?**
A: I think it will hold 50 or 250 different remotes, I presonly have 7 remotes with the wife and kids each can open the gate. I use for a sliding gate.

**Q: can you program rolling code remotes from Genie?**
A: Yes it worked with my rolling code Genie door opener remotes. If I recall, once you put it in program mode and press the opener button, I had to go back and tap the program button once more. (Not press and hold)

**Q: Does it connect to internet?**
A: No, it has its own frequency, to activate the remote

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Long range and simple configuration

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fixed my Craftman short range issue and made it safer with two stage remote operation
*by A***R on February 4, 2025*

I was having issues with garage door remotes with a local military base. I had almost no reception range with the craftsman garage door opener. I used another alternative for a while, but those too were interfered with slightly. This unit is basically the only solution without replacing my craftsman garage door opener with a whole new unit. (I even replace circuit boards in the craftsman but it would never full increase the range). I installed this unit and attached it to the inside garage button with a short wire. I then used standard cable coax and ran the antenna to just outside the garage door at the top. I now have a long range with the remotes and with my HomeLink in my newer cars (does not work with older car, so just use the remotes). I replaced the keypad and now not only does it work better but is safer with the two stage (yellow button) remote operation.
