In addition, specially written teaching helps to educate today's young reader in understanding the Bible's meaning and its relevance for everyday life.My Review: Reading from the Bible should be top priority in our homes. But sometimes, those little ones are itching for pictures to go along with the stories they hear. I think they do this because its hard for them to imagine these stories with their tiny imaginations. New Leaf Press has republished an interesting book for our little's and even we as the parents to enjoy&drive that perfect story home for them. The book is entitled, Illustrated Family Bible Stories, it is filled with over 200 beautifully illustrated events from the Old&New Testaments. Filled to the brim with pictures and the stories that we all have enjoyed for years, these stories really open up another world to us. Not only do you get the story written to where even a child could understand, you also get other interesting facts related to the story as well. You will get the scripture reference and their is a Bible reference section in the back of the book that lists a more thorough understanding of items mentioned in the book. The book is listed at the price of, $24.99 and is available in hard cover. You can take a look at this link. My family really enjoyed the book and I really enjoyed the interaction it creates. They get to learn more into the background of the story, than they would of originally. As a homeschool mom, I hold on to all books such as these because I can use it in my teaching for my children. Some hits and some misses
I would recommend this Bible for ages 7 and up. It does have beautiful, realistic illustrations and some background info that is interesting. However, there are some things about this Bible that I'm not crazy about. Since it's a children's Bible, I would reorder some of the stories in a more chronological way so that the flow of Bible history makes sense. For example, the rebuilding of the wall in Ezra and Nehemiah are presented before the exile. I think it would be more helpful if it was the other way around. In reading the story of rebuilding the wall, you would have to do some explaining to fill in the gaps.Although I didn't find any major errors, there were some things I would have reworded differently. In Genesis, when speaking about the tree of knowledge of good and evil, the books states, "At the center of the garden stood a tree with the special power to give the knowledge of good and evil to anyone who ate its fruit." I don't believe the tree had special power in and of itself, but knowing good and evil came as a result of disobeying God. Also, the books says that "After Adam and Eve were expelled from he Garden of Eden, sin entered the world for the first time." According to Scripture, sin entered the world when Adam and Eve ate the fruit, not when they were expelled from the Garden. I know I'm being picky, but since it's God's word we are talking about, I think it is important to be as accurate as possible.I would recommend The Story Bible put out by Concordia Publishing House. It too has very realistic illustrations. The difference between the two Bibles is that this Bible is a retelling of the stories so I sometimes disagree with how things are phrased or explained. The Story Bible by Concordia sticks pretty close to the actual Bible text which I like.I will still use this Bible as it has some value in pointing out historical things and gives some background info which is good, but I will occasionally have to do some editing here and there. I would recommend reading through the story first before you read it to your child to make sure you are comfortable with how things are presented.
