Love this gravity waterer - easy to install, easy to clean, seems sturdy
I have kept chickens and other poultry for years, and have tried multiple types of watering systems. These are the components of this waterer I really like:1) Easy to install - took me 5 minutes (using a drill with a bit slightly smaller than the male part of the waterer)2) Super simple to clean. A brush or your finger can be used to clean out the water well area, and the hole thing can be flipped in a 360 turn to clean out any debris.3) Chickens LOVE It. They immediately fixated on it and had no trouble understanding its purpose4) Just about any container can be used as the receptacle. I am using a 5 gallon bucket with a small hole drilled in the lid, with a cloth filter to block any bugs or dirt but allow air to move (preventing suction)5) Very durable and no parts to break6) Great depth and availability - chickens like water sources that they can put their wattles in, to cool off in hot months. This water source allows this, AND it is deep enough for a duck to stick its head into (very important to duck owners)7) The filter added to the inside of the flow is great and doesn't allow the birds to "backwash" any debris into the water repositoryI plan on buying another one of these once there are more available - highly recommend!

it works
this thing works good...its easy to clean..just tip the bucket side ways and spay out if dirty..I have had no problems with it I just bought another one tonight ...will it last I don't know..I think it will..had it for about four months with no problems..I sit it on a chuck of wood a little bigger than a five gallon bucket and pull it back so the back of it catches the back side of the wood ..I'm using about a 15 inch log that I cut so the tray will not move from side to side if you don't make it stable they will try to stand on it and twist down which will run all the water out eventually..the way I do it ..it last for days..I have 7 chickens that takes them about 5 days to get it low enough to change...you need to make sure it's about 8 inchs off the ground or higher

VERY DISAPPOINTED
EDIT: 2/5/24 - Moved to 1 star! We now have none of the cups filling and maintaining water in them. I have removed the two small set screws on the bottom as instructed to clean and the housing were not dirty. I have no idea why the float valves have quit working but at this price point, I am VERY disappointed. Additionally, I have had two more of them break at the stem. We have a small flock of 19 ducks and I was looking to make my job easier. Now, I will be moving back to the chicken waterers that I bought 4 years ago that still work.EDIT: 12/15/23 moved from 5 to 2 starsI've had these a few months and they are installed on 55 gallon drums since we have a large flock (22 ducks and 7 geese). I was cleaning out the cups with a hose, went to straighten one that was tilted and it snapped off at the stem. Then two days ago, I noticed three were not filled. Then today, the remaining 4 were dry and my drum was full of water. My ducks have other water sources but these are not cheap and shouldn't have failed so quickly. Will check with customer service and update results.-----------------These are a quality product with a great design. Easy to install - we put them on food grade, 55 gallon barrels. Saves this duck mom from having to refill waterers several times a day.

Plastic doesn't work for pipe
Works...but don't think this is the highest quality. We bought 2 put them on the same 5 gallon square good grade watering bucket that we purchased at the same time (it was black even to inhibit algae growth, never leaked or let us down on not filling back up after 25+ birds used it. Thought I finally had the solution to our waterers. But being plastic on all the parts except the internal screen and the rubber o-ringn unfortunately they broke about 2 month after we installed them, both within 2 weeks of each other (we plugged the empty drilled out hole with hot glue amd let it dry, worked fine with just having one on there). Where it broke off was right where the spout to the threaded pipe butts up to the bucket. And there was never a time when weight was put on these to cause them any stress. I tried to "weld" the pieces back together with a wood burner, and it worked, got it reinstalled, and it busted back off. The threaded pipe is about as big as a nickle, and of course because this is hollow for water to flow through, over time, without support under the little bases, i think it just became to weak to stay attached. Which stinks because I really liked these (they were in the shade to the entire time, so it wasn't an issue of the sun dry rotting them out either). If you do decide to purchase, just make sure you have some kind of support under the base of the blue dish.

Good for chickens
Wish it was a little bigger for the bigger birds and ducks but is absolutely perfect for chickens.

Big & sturdy
This was larger than I expected.Easily goes into 5 gallon bucket...I have few gals who refuse to use nipple system. Thus far this cup had not frozen - I have a drop in water heater in 5 gallon bucket. Its made well. Very sturdy.

Don't use 1/2in bit
Was really excited to try this out bc I have a blind rooster that has a hard time using the traditional water drinking cups. However, instructions say to use a 1/2 in drill bit to make hole for installing. Save yourself the trouble and don't. Use a 3/8in instead and try to round it out a bit bigger. 1/2in is far too large. Also, there aren't alot of rubber seals/ O rings, so I anticipate this will leak come next spring.

Best when you have chickens that don't learn
I bought this because I have 4 mentally challenged chickens. The other six learned how to use the nipples first time after two used them. Rather than let Darwin take control, I bought this automatic waterer after a different purchase kept leaking. It has saved a lot of my time. I still have a one gallon waterer hanging for backup but all of them prefer this one. It's a little spendy but the convenience of it caused me to take a chance. Easy to clean, easy to install (I installed mine a little higher than I should have), and the blue against the red color of the bucket made it easy for the girls to find it.
