MBA Fundamentals Accounting and Finance (Kaplan Test Prep)

I'm pursuing an online MBA and just took Fundamentals of Accounting and Fundamentals of Finance. This book was a GREAT resource. I wish I'd just read this book and not paid for the two courses because I learned more from this book than either of the courses. Griffin explains most concepts more clearly than either of my professors as well. I'm confident I passed my second test in Finance due to this book. If you have no background knowledge, BUY THIS BOOK! If you have a background or are pursuing an accounting certification, don't buy it. As the title suggests, it's the fundamentals.

Purchased this book as a pre-class study before my accounting class. The book introduced the normal accounting terms and processes. It did an excellent job providing a high-level introduction. The author gave good examples and practice questions in every chapter. He introduced formulas and provided examples of how to apply the formulas. I would assume if you have already completed an accounting class, this book would be a review item or quick read for refreshing formulas. I did notice that the writing style or editing seemed to change in part II of the book. Not a huge deal but the flow did seem to change. I also found a couple of errors in the calculation.

Very basic and easy to understand. Great for creating a foundation.

I bought this as a complement to my Master's degree, which doesn't include a course on accounting or finance because I don't want to spend a lot of time studying the subject - it isn't something that excites me. Having said that, I think a lot of managers need to know something about accounting and finance. The book suits my purpose well: it's clear, readable, and has good short exercises to check your understanding at the end of each chapter. I haven't yet read the whole thing - as I said, the subject doesn't excite me - but doing so would not be too painful. Even if I stop reading it now, 1/3 of the way through, I have learned a lot of basic information about how accounting is done, and I would now at least know where to start with a financial statement.

Great intro to accounting and finance.

Great supplement to my textbook and class. Really helps me understand concepts so that I can apply them to my homework and exams.

I have 15 years of experience as accountant and I found this book very useful for teaching purposes. It presents in a clear language finance and accounting. I love it

PartII- management accounting: managerial and cost accounting Part III- finance and statement analysis, budgeting, time value, bond, cost of capital, capital budgeting cash flows and techniques

This is a really useful resource in my EFL classes to people in banking (in Spain) who need to know the current, correct English word for terms on financial statements. And I, a non-financial person, understand it-- well explained.

If you don't know anything about accounting and finance, you will not understand anything as the concepts are not properly explained and if you know something accounting and finance, you will not learn anything new as the book is very introductory. But, if you are looking for a revision of your basic understanding of the subject you might consider buying this book.
