Awesome gate!
Perfect gate!!! I have a 4 foot opening between my living room and dining room and was looking for something to keep the dog on one side or the other (he's an active 7 yr old 75 lb husky). This gate was easy to install and is simple, traditional and somewhat brilliant in design. There was no piece that installed into the floor - there is a piece that came attached to the bottom of the middle of the gate - this piece rests on the floor and gives the wide gate support in the middle when it's extended. It's been up for 6 months and I've never pinched a finger or anything else. I can manage to step over it but it's so easy to open and close I usually don't bother to try to go over. My dog is big - he has pushed on the gate but hasn't done any damage and the gate was sturdy enough that he has stopped trying. He did try to go over it the first day it was up. Thankfully - he didn't hurt himself or the gate - despite landing on it. It had to hurt some - he just didn't quite make it over and had to have some help getting his hind legs back on the ground. The gate wasn't phased by his 75 lb self hanging from it. I'm glad I was right there when it happened and glad it wasn't worse than it turned out... The experience was enough for him that he has not ever tried to go over the gate again. He has jumped up to put his paws on the top like he does on the fence outside - the gate is gives a little but is able to take it without any damage. And thankfully - he doesn't do this often. At first the gate was really important so that I could separate the cats who had live here for 10 years from the newly adopted 7 yr old large dog who wanted to chase them. Over time the gate was perfect for the job - the cats were visible but protected from him and gradually he grew accustomed to their existence. We were able to control his access to them and eventually train him to get comfortable and not chase them at all. I had expected to remove the gate once we reached peaceful cohabitation... but it swings out of the way so easily and has proven useful for other occassions when I want to keep the dog contained while a door is open or something - so it remains installed and helpful.

Works great and solid
Great gate, very sturdy for how wide it extends. All parts are riveted though. Would be nice if they allowed you to remove the locking mechanism, hook or center foot by simply unscrewing some bolts.

Perfect for the job
I bought this gate in order to keep our cats out of our finished basement area. The opening was 54 inches, and was between a regular wall and the edge of a stairway. This gate worked absolutely perfectly. I didn't even have a stud to go to on the wall portion as the instructions advised to use, so I used dry-wall anchors and the gate works perfectly, even at that distance. The operation of latching/unlatching is easy enough for my 5 and 8-year old boys to use.If you're careful during the installation, you'll have no problems putting this thing up. I did it with no help, though I probably could have used an extra hand for leveling, but I worked it out.The included spacers made it very easy for me to work out the portion that was going to be at the floor molding we have.Don't listen to the bad reviews. If you have an extra wide opening, and you don't want to spend too much... get this gate. I've had it a few weeks and my young boys have been going in and out every day, and it's holding up perfectly. Most importantly my pets are now kept out of that room! It's wood so not necessarily the prettiest gate out there... but that's not what I needed.Enjoy!

Good gate but it should be for the price
I wanted an expandable gate for a stairway to keep dogs off the second floor. This gate fits the bill. I use it with a banister mounting kit. Install was straight forward. The lower latch bracket could fit in the mounting eye a little better but the gate is sturdy. A plate with a round pin would have been easier to get in an eye bolt instead of a flat plate that barely fits. The gate is a bit pricey for what it is though. I mean it is just a bunch of unfinished wood strips and fasteners.

This installed quickly (you need a drill and basic installation skills) and easily. I have a 46ish inch doorway between my dining room and my living area, and I wanted to cover the entire frame plus be able to tuck the gate all the way out of the frame... this wasn't quite right for that: in order to reach all the way across the doorway, we had to mount it close enough to the door frame that it stuck out an inch or so even when fully collapsed. No matter, though, since swinging it out away from the wall, while fully collapsed, covers the back of our TV stand, which keeps the cats off the record player. Everyone wins! The width of the collapsed unit is a really important bit of information that really should be in the product description. The latch is a bit tricky, but effective.

Great value
Very sturdy and both easy to install and to use. It keeps our 2 Shih Tsus where we want them when we are at work. The center leg in the middle of the span keeps it steady and in place. It is 4 inches taller than my previous gate and removed the temptation of my Shih Tsus from trying to jump over it. Highly reccomend both the product and seller.

Have these all over the house!
I have a total of 4 of these around the house to keep naughty dogs away from trouble. Easy to use, compact and out of the way storing when not using (just swing it away on the hinge). The only, very small complaint is that the top latch is difficult to latch. When fully pressed (it's spring loaded) it opens exactly wide enough to slide into the eye hook. Fully pressing requires super strength and then there's lots of fumbling to get it to latch. I actually hate that part of it.
