I ordered this strip to tinker with the technology. RGB LEDs are actually 3 LEDs on a single base, with separate inputs to each. Color variations are achieved by pulsing the RGB elements at different pulse widths to adjust RGB color intensity as necessary to achieve a desired color. Since each LED consumes 3+ volts, the earlier 12V models have groups of 3 RGBs wired in series to consume the applied voltage (which is why there is a cut point every 3 RGBs). In contrast, this strip has single RGBs wired in parallel, hence the 5V source (resistors are added to balance the voltage consumption per LED for both 5V and 12V strips). The single RGB LED wiring used for this strip also means there is a cut point with solder pads after every RGB LED. Being set up for a 5V source is nice because most of us have excess 5V supplies from upgrading our cell phones (any 5V source will do, including batteries used to charge cell phones). The only issue is whether your 5V source can produce enough amps to handle your entire string (figure 20mA per LED). It appears (unverified) that the supplied controller can handle up to 12A, although the documentation in the package I received is for a 12V string, not a 5V string. The supplied controller has a microprocessor to pulse the RGB LED components to achieve different effects (dimming an LED is achieved by reducing pulse width). By controlling the intensity of each of R, G, B, different colors result. The supplied remote control uses IR to send commands to the controller if that is of interest (so line of sight to the controller is necessary for the remote to work).One other thing: the string has a 4 pin plug, one pin for +5V and one for each of RGB. The supplied LED controller has 4 corresponding inputs to plug into. Once the controller is plugged in and powered, the remote will control the string. More interesting is that the pin spacing for the string's plug uses standard pin spacing, meaning it can be plugged into a breadboard. That makes it pretty easy to write your own controller using an Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or to power any of the RGB rails directly, although most such users might prefer a version that imbeds a chip with each RGB LED to allow it to be addressed independently. There isn't much information on the web regarding the technical specifications for using these strings without the supplied controller which is why I added it to this review on the off chance that might be just what you want to know.

I really wanted to give this unit more stars but it lacks two important thing i really needed. 1st off i does not have WHITE! don't let the stock photos fool you there is no white. I tried every button on that remote and the best this can give you is an ultra violet or light lavender. I tried raising and lowering the intensity but that did not help much. All the other colors are what they say, Blue is Blue, Red is Red and Green is Green but White is not White and that was the only color i really needed. The remote works fine ( feels really cheap but it works), but i did notice they interchanged the strobe and smooth button but i wont use it so that doesn't bother me but might bother someone else. The 2nd major issue is the tape. It Sticks but it's already coming off and i just mounted it yesterday & yes i cleaned the area first with alcohol before sticking it. If this actually had the color white in 5000k or even something close to white like a soft white i would have given it 5 stars but the white does not even come close. So if you are buying this for white light stop right there and buy just the white only version somewhere else which is what i might be doing. If you like different colors then buy this.I mounted this on my 65inch Samsung LED (Non 4K) TV. The fit was perfect since I mounted it 4-5 inches away from the edge.(UPDATE 04/17/17) I was contacted by the company and they sent out a replacement unit when they found out that my unit did not work correctly. Very happy with outcome and the quick action of their customer service team. 5 stars!

After initially testing these lights to make sure they worked, I went to a lot of trouble to get them placed in my cabinets (behind all the brick-a-brack) to cast some really nice light. Only problem is they worked for the first hour or so and then started malfunctioning. Color button pushes on the remote do not correspond to the color on the remote. I push green, I get a blue; red gives me a white, etc. The remote seems to intermittently work as well...one moment a color button works, the next time, it won't. Remote is flimsy and cheap which was expected, but I also expected the lights to work longer than the first day of use. Very disappointed and now I have to pull all of that brick-a-brack down to get these out to return them. Look somewhere else, although these units probably all come from the same place.

The lights work great, but I can't get them to stay attached to the back of the TV.Updated: changed to 5 stars. Excellent customer service from the seller. Stand behind their product. Will definitely buy from them again.

It does the job though a few things I'd like to point out.The white isn't white at all, it's a pale turquoise which kind of is annoying because I mainly got it for white back-lighting.Next, the adhesive pad on the back is really poor, it barely sticks to my computer case and I had to put on double-sided tape to get it to stick.finally, the silicone coating on the strip is pretty thick, making it very difficult to bend 90 degrees around my case's panel.Still It's a decent buy for the price, though I will say I suggest getting the 2M strip, the 1M strip only manages to cover 3/4 of my side panel window.

Love em! Ive bought several of these and theyre always great. Dont forget to pull the plastic out if remote so it works. Ine shipped with a bad remote and they promotly sent a new one and said I could keep the lights so I chained them together and that was 6 months ago and they're still perfect.

There is little to no "stickiness" to the back of these lights. Not sure if there is suppose to be or a corner they cut to get the price lower.color matching is impossible with more then 1 controller. Pictured is two controllers plugged directly into the same light strip with the same "white" setting used.
