The Perfect Guide To Sumo

Explains everything about sumo. Good pictures and drawings.

Great overview of the history and culture of sumo, along with modern information about the matches, moves and money. Fascinating. Some complain about the small print, but I like the size as a table companion during the tournaments. Carefully wrapped and packaged.

I haven't read it all the way through, but it is pretty much exactly what I was looking for: A history and explanation of Sumo wrestling with traditional Japanese illustrations. But, it's a lot smaller than I thought it was gonna be, the size of a small paperback. If nothing else, it's just a lost opportunity for the publishers to have large images of the beautiful illustrations, which is the only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5.

I bought the book on a whim but was completely blown away by the amount of illustrations (primarily sumo woodblock prints) in a smallish book. I have followed sumo as a casual observer but needed some explanation. The size of the book plus being bilingual (sorry, English text small but have reading glasses handy) adds to the importance of conveying the textual information of all things sumo.

Clear detail and beautiful illustrations

This is a great book to have as a general reference to Sumo. Beautifully illustrated and well written, this book is a great guide to an often confusing sport. Go Enhō!

Beautiful book to give as a gift

The book is great and very informative, and something that my whole household can use (mom is Japanese and my husband is American), but the print is TINY. The pictures can be deceiving. If the print was larger it would have been 5 stars.
