Nice concept, but poor construction
I bought one of these kits for my mom's boyfriend's granddaughter, and liked the concept and what I could see of the contents, I bought one for myself as well (particularly because they happened to be on buy one, get one 50% off at Toys R US at the time). The 12-year-old I gave it too was excited when she opened it -- as she put it, it combined three things she loves: bracelets, her phone, and making things -- but I haven't heard anything about how it's gone actually making the bracelets. Personally, though, I was sorely disappointed when I tried to make my own bracelets. The biggest issue is that the fasteners do not stay on the wire. That's great if you want to change out the charms, but not so much if you want to actually wear the bracelet -- it pops open either sliding it over my hand, or within a minute or two of getting it on. I'm thinking about putting a drop or two of superglue on the connectors in certain spots (both where the wire goes into the plastic insert inside the connector, and behind the plastic, where it fits into the metal connector, since it can easily pop out), which would mean that the charms would no longer be interchangeable, but that's fine with me.My other issue is that the kit requires that you glue the ends of the embroidery floss to make them easier to work with (e.g. for stringing beads), then tie them in a knot around a piece of double-sided tape to attach them to the wire bracelets. I haven't actually tried this yet, but don't need to to know it's going to look horrible. The end result is going to be a large knot, which won't stay in place anyway, and will just look bad, especially since it will border exposed wire on one side.I do like the charms, the wire bracelets are decent (though the wire could afford to be considerably thicker and stronger -- it's far to easy to change its shape, even accidentally), and the patterns for wrapping the embroidery floss seem cute and easy to follow (though I haven't actually tried them yet, I have read through the instructions, and can see how it's going to work, I just wasn't willing to put in the time until I've figure out how to make a finished project that's worth the effort), but I think that making even a functional, let alone attractive finished product is going to require a fair amount of hardware, supplies, and techniques not included in the kit or instructions. In addition to the superglue for the closures, I'm thinking I'll probably need to figure out a way to attach the floss to the wire with crimp beads or something, to avoid having it look like it was made by a preschooler. However, I do think this will make a really cute bracelet, once I supplement the basic concept with my own skills, knowledge, and supplies.
