Chess Armory Wooden Chess Set - 17 inch Large Chess Board Sets for Adults and Kids with Extra Queen Pieces & Storage Box

I ordered this about 3 years ago and am still loving it today! It is a beautiful set that looks expensive at a great price. No issues, everything came as expected for a standard set. No missing pieces. The craftsmanship is good and the set is durable. I have been using it for years and dropped pieces here and there but everything still looks pretty new besides some very minor wear and tear. The board also folds closed which is a great feature. Would highly recommend this if you are looking for a gift or a new set.

The pieces are good size. Board is big and heavy. Nice all around.

I truly love this chessboard set! The details and toughness of this masterpiece is excellent. I guaranteed that this board will last for how many years. Also, they gave all their customers an assistance if whatever happens or unnecessary defect in their product. Excellent product!

Honest, non-dramatic, non-biased review incoming...Ordered yesterday, arrived today. Has 3 white queens, but no white king. All other pieces accounted for. Wrote manufacturer about the issue. Depending on resolution time, I’ll modify the review. 3 stars for now.The board is nice enough. Everything is lined up well (board halves, print, hinges). Finish on the board and pieces is decent. Very few blemishes on my pieces, but I see others have received some that are pretty rough looking. Pieces are a bit light in weight, but that’s probably just me being used to stone pieces. The felt on one of the brown pawns was not lined up, but it was a simple fix.I like the large 17” size board. Folded board held closed with magnets, not latches, which I like. Felt pieces cover/hide the inside of the hinges, which is a nice touch. The additional queens is nice too.I’ll let you know how the customer service works out with regard to the missing piece. Included card says “Is your chess set missing anything?”. It sounds like it might possibly be a common thing.Update 11/4Received response from manufacturer about an hour and a half after I contacted them. They're sending a replacement piece. We'll see how long it takes to get here.Update 11/11After a couple of emails back and forth to ensure I got the right pieces for my set (they said they would send a pawn as well for the felt issue I had), they shipped out on the 6th, and I got them on the 10th (they could have been sitting in the mailbox for a day, so let's call it 3 days in transit). Unfortunately I received yet another white queen (:facepalm:), along with the pawn. I was very clear in my email ("I need a WHITE KING"). Also unfortunate was that the pieces they sent were shorter than those in my set. In my initial email I provided the Amazon link to the set I purchased, so receiving the short pieces was a bit surprising. I emailed them and included a photo of the pieces they sent, along side pieces from my set, for reference (see attached image). They promptly replied with a new tracking number. I suspect this time it will be correct.We took a sharpie and drew a big X on the top of one of the many queens so we could play. These things are really light, and I'm knocking over the taller pieces pretty regularly. It could just be my big ogre hands. If I had to do it over again, I'd go with weighted or magnetic set.I was both lucky (board was lined up and looked good, unlike some of the other reviews, almost no blemishes on my pieces), and unlucky (missing piece, wrong replacement shipped initially). Customer service was very responsive, which was good, but this has now turned out to be more hassle than I'd like. Based on my experience, and some of the other reviews, there is a fair chance that you might run into a quality related issue. It's a bit of a crap shoot. However, I'm pretty confident they'll make it right in the end. You may need, as in my case, a little patience, which I still currently have. However, if I have to come back in here to provide another update, I'm confident that patience will have run out at that point, and drama will likely ensue :)Overall it's a decent set for the money (will be in probably 3 days). I only wish the pieces were heavier. I'm moving this to up 4 stars in anticipation of the correct piece arriving (deducting a star for the hassle, not the set).Final update:The king, of correct size and color, did arrive. Unfortunately it has a spot on it (see photo). Not the end of the world.

I originally bought a chess set at Walmart.. oops!After realizing it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind, I came to Amazon like anybody else would!I found this chess set and it seemed perfect, I received it and, well, it was!! Aside from one very minor flaw... one of the pawns had a metal staple (or something?) protruding from the bottom that made the pawn wobbly. It wasn’t a deal breaker, but slightly annoying. So anyhow, Chess Armory promises that they will replace any defective pieces, so I emailed them....Their team responded quickly and without question, sent my replacement. It arrived much quicker than I could have possibly anticipated and instead of the one replacement pawn they promised, they actually sent TWO!This chess board is of high quality (wood, hinges, etc. are all well made and durable) - It’s easily storable - The inside has straps for the pieces so they aren’t flopping around inside + they are much easier to keep up with than any board I’ve had before - the support team is responsive and diligent... I could go on with the pros but cannot list the first con.Thanks Chess Armory, for an awesome product and for being so willing to help out with the most minor of problems.

My wife and I have put MANY hours on this thing. For the price, you can't beat it. I'm surprised how smooth everything feels, too. I expected a cheap set like this to feel cheap, but it doesn't.There is a bit of a varnish smell to it when you first get it, but it goes away after it airs out. Does it go perfectly together when you close it? No. Does it shut all the way to make sure your pieces are safe? Yes. Is there a bit of a gap in the middle of the board when you're playing? Yes. Is it enough to bother us? No. The complaints I see on this board would be justified if it was a much more expensive board. But it's not. So buy it and have fun!

For the price, this large portable set resembles a nice 'Jaques' style board. The chess pieces themselves are just OK and are not weighted, but the board is nearly full sized and can be used with your own (more expensive) large pieces. I really don't see any other boards in this price range that has this kind of raised borders for that retro Jaques effect. So, for the price of this large retro style portable set, it's got the style and uniqueness that makes for a nice addition to your chess collection. Recommended for the board alone.
