Good theory, weaker execution
I'm a gaming mouse guru, and have been trying to find the perfect mouse for my needs. I'm looking for about 9 total buttons, in a setup where the buttons aren't all squished together (like the Razer Naga), and in a form factor that I find comfortable (see my Logitech G700 review). So, while digging deep for the "perfect mouse," I stumbled upon the Genius Deathtaker. It looked like it had it all - 9 buttons spread all around the mouse, a design similar to my G9 that I love, and the ability to reprogram all of the buttons to whatever key I'd like. And while the mouse does deliver on those key points, it falls short in overall build quality. The thumb rest area has a nice, soft-touch texture (sort of like the back of Droid phones), but Genius didn't extend this design around the whole mouse - the rest is hard plastic. That's not so bad, but it does feel a bit "cheap" in the hand. More of an issue is that most of the buttons are very mushy, and have very poor action. The X and Y buttons near the left click are particularly bad in this regard. The X button will press down a good halfway before it reaches the "click," and then it will sort of "stick" slightly before coming up when you release. The Y button on my mouse slides back and forth slightly when you slide your finger across it.The left/right click, D and M buttons have somewhat better feel, but all of the "auxiliary" (X, Y, D and M) buttons also have no contouring or other tactile cues as to where they are. Over time, you might gain a better feel for where each button is on the mouse, but it would have been nice to have slight bumps or changes in leveling to let you know, without looking, that your finger has moved over a different button. The design of the mouse, with the left-to-right downward slant, is also puzzling. I don't have big hands (and my hand fits very comfortably on the G9, a similarly sized mouse), but my middle finger goes well over the edge of the right click while I'm holding the mouse, due to its shape. Since the middle finger is the longest one, I'm surprised that Genius would make the button associated with that finger shorter. This is by no means a bad mouse. The color options are nice, the macro system is serviceable, and it tracks quite well on my surface1030. I also like the overall layout of the buttons. But, if you're hoping to make regular use of the extra buttons, be prepared to be disappointed - they're clearly meant to be touched infrequently, and don't have the requisite build or design quality to be of much use when hotkeyed to abilities.

Good, adjustable, and sensitive. All good.
The mouse has lots of customization features on it and it is very sensitive. The design is "edgy" and seems to work well. I do find that every now and again, I have a hard time getting a good grip on the right mouse button. I don't know if others are experiencing this or it if is just me. It also could be my hand shape or the angle that I am using it. The left mouse button is superb and is very comfortable with great feedback. it could be that I like the LH button so much that the right just can't compete ... :)One thing that I am never so happy about with these mice is that you need to install third party software to get them to really work. That is always a bummer, but not really the MFG fault. The fabric wrapped cord is really nice and is a great touch. The glowing and changing lights are cool ... adding weights is nice way to get feel you want (they come with the mouse)Overall, seems like a good value for the high quality "mousing" experience.

Beautiful High-DPI Gaming Mouse with Slick LED Effects
The media could not be loaded. This mouse is very comfortable and configurable and works great in Windows 8. The surfaces vary from position to position: thumb is the most grippy with a rubber-like texture, the fingers are non-slippery plastic and the palm and right side are slipper plastic. This seems well thought out. I have medium size hands and this mouse fits very well. The X-Y buttons near the forefinger are easy to access and have a raised ridge. The two windows buttons by the thumb thumb are easy to access but would be a little easier if they weren't raised so high. The DPI setting works well and is located in a place where you aren't likely to hit it by accident. The Macro button is in a odd location but is still serviceable. The software is awesome and the LED color customization is amazing. You can completely customize the color, throb rate and intensity. You can adjust the weight with tiny weight inserts. The overall design is really angular.Pros:Lots of buttonsComfortableAwesome SoftwareCool LED customizationFast DPINeat texturesSoftware works on Windows 8Cons:Thumb buttons raised a little high (can get used to)Opening the weight compartment isn't intuitive (press on scorpion tail and slide right)May be small for large hands or long fingered gamers.UPDATE: Looks like Genius has a newer driver on the Genius site than the GX site.

amazing! but size is an issue for large hands
I bought it about a week back. The mouse is amazing!!!! Trust me. Rubberised feel gives a good grip. And the weight Adjustments work too.The only con would be that the mouse is not suitable if u have large hands like me. Doesn't fit properly. If u r a palm hand gamer, I'll suggest you to go for Thor g9. Other than that. Its wonderful!
