Another great book from Sean Kenney
I've been a fan of this author since stumbling upon his Cool Cars and Trucks a few years ago, so I was very excited when I heard that his third book was coming out. Once again, we are presented with many wonderful creations in LEGO to awe and inspire young and old builders alike.I think it's important to understand what this book is and what it isn't. First off, you can see that the book is 32 pages. For those who have LEGO City sets, the average instruction manual probably has at least that many pages - so this isn't an instruction manual. This book doesn't have many words either - most of the pages have about one sentence at most. What you will find in this book are many wonderful photos - in this case scenes out of a City made of LEGO bricks. Most of the creations are in minifig scale, but the author also includes some micro-scale creations as well to show you what is possible. The book includes a few simple instructions, in this case how to build a food cart, statue, some micro-scale buildings, a stop light, a soda machine, a food stand, and a couple of minfig scale buildings (one with a working elevator). The book also includes a bonus sticker sheet, which includes stickers for the soda machine, food cart, and street signs (among others). The wonderful thing about Sean's books is that they appeal to a wide age range. My children (age 3 & 6) love these books for the photos which recreate scenes out of every day life in LEGO - and since the books are light on text they make great bedtime books for the kids. As your kids get older, they can use the instructions to build the models, or as inspiration to build their own creations. Even the adult fan of LEGO will enjoy paging through this book again and again, there are lots of techniques that you can pick up out of the photos. One interesting technique, for example, is the use of forced perspective to make buildings appear larger.I rated this book four stars because I didn't like it quite as much as Sean's first book Cool Cars and Trucks, but if I hadn't read that book first I probably would have given this five stars. In summary - if you are looking for a book that LEGO fans of all ages will enjoy paging through again and again - this is the book for you. If you are looking for more detailed instructions, check out something like LEGO City Brickmaster . Better yet, pick up both!

A Great Book For the Young Brickmaster
I purchased this book for my 9 year old son. It's full of great ideas on building small scale towns with your own bricks. Contains labels/signage to complete the builds.A good inspirational book for kids who learn visually and can use hints in how to apply bricks in new ways.

Love this book!!
My 6 year old son is a lego fanatic and doens't really need help with "ideas" as many of the lego books out there provide. What he needs is some help figuring out HOW to make his ideas happen. This book does just that. It helps him think outside the box and create things that look different from traditional lego contruction - Kenney uses lego pieces differntly than the lego manufacturers do. We have all his books and they are regularly open on the lego table helping to inspire my son to create new and interesting things. Thanks Sean Kenney!

This book is awesome!
Yes it uses some pieces that aren't normal pieces but if your child has a million sets, like my does, then you'll be fine. I like that this shows items my son would never think of, like it shows a bench and a traffic light! He would never think of that on his own. I also loveeeeee that this has stickers for the Legos, it helps the finished item come to life! I can't wait to see my sons eyes light up when he gets this.

So-o-o cool in the City!
My three year old grandson flipped when I gave him this book. With so much excitement we sat down right away and started looking through the book. He could not put it down. Needless to say he felt like he had a big boy lego book like his big brother. Way too cute. Thanks so much.

Plenty of ideas in this book
After being disappointed with the same author's "Cool Castles" book I was expecting the same let down with this matching volume, which arrived a few days later. However, it turned out to be a far better purchase, with lots of good ideas and quite thought-provoking examples of middle-range Lego architecture - surely the subject best suited to this 'brick' system. Whether you regard this as a reading book or a source of model building ideas, "Cool City" will meet your expectations.

Very cool
My 9 year old son has got some great building ideas from this book. He also loves the stickers in the back which are a great idea and really enhance some of his creations. At first I was concerned that he was too old for it as the text seems aimed at a younger age group. However it has proved to be very worthwhile.
