The very best help for strong memorization...
What I like best about these recordings is Alex. Scourby's masterful reading of the King James Bible."Thee" and "thou" flow so naturally in his voice. This is very important, for reasons as follows.1. When the Bible uses the words "thee" and "thou," the person being addressed in the text is a single, individual person.2. When the Bible uses "you" and "ye," the persons being addressed are a group of people. This is no accident and is crucial for true understanding of the Bible. The original languages always distinguish between "thou" versus "you."For example, the Hebrew word "Elohim" is literally, "Gods," (plural), but the verb coupled with Elohim in the Bible, when speaking of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, is always strangely in the singular. And God is always address as "Thee" or "Thou," and "Thy" and "Thine."Ancient Jews realized early that God had multiple persons within a single entity: "Hear O Israel: YHVH our Gods (Elohim) is one YHVH." Deut. 6:4; "And the Spirit of Gods (Elohim) moved upon the face of the waters." Gen. 1:2; "Let Us make man in Our image." Gen. 1:26.Only in modern English language Bibles is God ever addressed in a technical plural. Not in any other language: Their current vocabulary easily handles the plural and singular "you" in the original Bible languages of Hebrew and Greek. Thus any translation without "thee," "thou," "thy" or "thine" is actually a mistranslation, because without those pronouns, much of the text becomes very misleading, e.g.:"Simon, Simon, behold Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren." (Luke 22:31-32)This passage takes on a very different meaning, if those "thee" and "thou" and "thy" words become just more "you" and "your" words.Just a short while after saying that, Jesus told Peter he would deny Him 3 times before the cock would crow.According to the above-cited passage in Luke, Peter couldn't have yet been converted. The other disciples may have been, but Peter wasn't.Once Peter was converted, his faith sometimes faltered, but didn't fail. And he was able to strengthen his fellow disciples on very many occasions recorded in the Bible. The "sifting as wheat" remark was speaking of a plural group, which means Jesus must have been speaking to Simon Peter about all His disciples. It shows too, that Satan wants to divide all disciples, separating them the way wheat is separated: Into coarse, fine, dark, light, or other differing types and gradations. The strategy of evil against Christianity is: "Divide and conquer," using a wedge of intrinsic and superficial traits.None of this is revealed through the modern English use of "you" and "yours" for all 2nd Person pronouns.Thousands of other examples and doctrines could be cited.Practically every language but English still has a "thee" and "thou" form. In English it had already disappeared by the time the King James version was completed in 1611. The truth of this statement is seen by the "Letter Dedicatory" in the front of many KJV Bibles, where "thee" and "thou" aren't used at all. The King James version translators had to dredge up those near-dead words from "olden days" in order to make an accurate translation. It's wonderful to hear the King James text so naturally spoken by Alexander Scourby, who practiced every chapter several times before the recordings were made.I love the durable CD format. Not nearly as prone to damage as the old-time cassette tapes. The wonderfully rugged nylon canvas case my CDs came in feels fabulously rugged, too.Thank you to Hendrickson Publishers for coming out with this great item at such an affordable price! One more tip to others: Repeated listening is a marvelous help for strong memorization. Try it in your car, on the boat, around the house; you'll see what I mean!Don't be afraid of the King James version; Christ is recorded in at least three places in the Bible saying, "Heaven and earth shall pass away but My words shall not pass away."The Greek texts of the New Testament from which the King James was translated never passed out of common use. Several other Greek texts, did pass away for centuries, until unearthed by modern textual critics. These "undead" Greek texts, discarded by early faithful copyists, are now pervading the Bible market. Many other Greek texts, copied by hand for centuries, corrected their divergent readings of the Greek, using texts obtained by translators for the King James version.Hear these recordings over and over, and thank God for His mercies.

The best narration and quality CDs
I'm very impressed with the quality of the CDs. You can tell these will last for a long long time. Carrying case is made out of thick canvas material and the CD labels are nicely designed and outlined. I'm picky when it comes to audio bible CDs. I've been listening to Scourby for a couple of years and it really helps me understand the King James version, just by listening. You can tell there was a lot of planning ahead and thought put in, before narrating the Scriptures for recording. You'll never hear a monotone, it's never flat, the pitch of his voice rises and falls at the right moment making it very easy to listen and understand, even when you accidentally tune out, you can quickly tune in again at any point. You also learn the correct pronunciation of difficult words. Scourby being a Shakespearean actor really contributed to the production and quality of this audio narration. I have several audio Bibles from different publishers and nothing matches the recordings of Alexander Scourby. I prefer the audio CDs over the MP3 CDs because with audio CDs you can track your daily readings closely and monitor what you're going to read the next couple of days. I'm very serious now about my daily readings now that I'm sick. I'm still a young guy and I have a lot of catching up to do after many years of neglecting it. I enjoy reading the Bible while listening to the CDs which has helped me out a lot. I'm glad to be able to read from the most accurate version (The King James) and understand it. I also have a concordance on my side for more analytical study when needed. Sincerely, these CDs are truly a high-value gift. Very few purchases can have this much impact in your life.

The entire KJV! Exceptional reading & affordable.
I looked at a few complete KJV bible's read on CD before deciding on this one. I thought for 55.00 I would give it a shot. That being said, because the set IS only 55.00 - I wasn't too hopeful in the quality. I have to say, this is remarkably well read. I am going thru the NT first and I read along as it is narrated. This narrator is outstanding. For anyone who wants the King James Version on CD - I've no doubt you will enjoy this incredible set as much as I do. It would also make a really great gift. It's well packaged and the case the CD's come in is great. I can take it along with me wherever I go. I am grateful I found this on Smileamazon (check it out) for such an affordable price. Praise God and God Bless:)

A Great and Complete Reading of the KJV Bible.
The case is great and the CDs are good quality. The sound quality is very good. My computer is my DISC player. My main DISC drive is an external ASUS Bluetooth drive. Two of the CDs didn't want to play well in it. I connected my portable DVD/CD Multi drive to my computer and they played perfectly on that drive. I don't consider that a flaw or CON as I've frequently seen the same or worse in my 40 years of computer use. To be fair, I went looking for and found an old boom-box and the discs in question played well in it, too. I recommend buying the analog audio discs instead of the mp3 versions as the audio is better.

Best Purchase ever, Multi-Use. Family Bible Read, Bed time, Traveling, etc!
KJV, a must have for any home. The audio series eliminates any excuses for not reading the OT books that contain a lot of names! In fact, Alexander does such a great job in pronouncing the names, you can become quite fluent as well! We use the audio for those books in the OT. Aside from daily bible reading, it is also great to listen to at bed time. To have the Word of God being read in your home at night is soothing and peaceful, especially during difficult times! It also aides greatly in bible memory as well. Traveling or on the road a lot, Your bible reading time does not have to suffer! Much better than listening to God-less radio or Flesh-Feeding music.Best purchase ever!

... up reading her bible as her eyesight is very poor. She was quite upset at not being able ...
I bought this for my elderly mother who has had to give up reading her bible as her eyesight is very poor. She was quite upset at not being able to read her daily paragraph. I had read the reviews thoroughly and decided to purchase. I ordered online at 6pm and it was delivered the next day. I did not open the package but gave it to my mother at once.I spoke to her yesterday and after 10 days use, she is now on disc 5. She cannot praise the item highly enough and said that the voice of Alexander Scourby is excellent. He emphasises what needs to be and is clear and concise. His voice is not monotone or boring. She thoroughly enjoys listening to Mr Scourby. When I told my mother that I would be writing a review, she asked that I made it clear how delighted she is with her bible on CD. My mother would recommend this to anyone and I certainly would as it has made my mum happy.

Well worth the money!
Packed in a nice case, with each chapter of the bible clearly labelled on the cd's. I copied them onto a usb adapter that you insert a 32GB micro sd card into, and then added Chuck Misslers line by line bible commentaries as well. Now I can play it through the tv, or the stereo, or in the car, or I can transfer the micro sd card to my mp3 player when i go out walking, and its arranged so Alexander Scourby reads me a few chapters, and then I get an in depth bible commentary from Chuck Missler - in short, excellent!

Fantastic buy! This is excellent value and the reader ...
Fantastic buy! This is excellent value and the reader puts such understanding and expression into his reading. It makes the message come alive. I particularly chose the King James version as the language is so beautiful, if a struggle to read fluently sometimes, but this makes it an absolute pleasure to listen to. I highly recommend this for lovers of the A.V. version of the Bible.

Speaker has excellent voice, clear and precise
Speaker has excellent voice, clear and precise. The discs are individually placed in the case so if you want to take just a section of the Bible with you, you can. Found that i could travel with Walkman and the discs i wanted anywhere i wanted. If you enjoy the KJV of the Bible but find the language too hard to manage, these discs solve the problem.

Authorised Version of the Holy Bible
I was delighted to see that this product is still available. I bought it some years ago and I wanted to buy another set to give as a gift. I was surprised that I was able to buy it today cheaper than what I had paid for it previously. It arrived well packed and promptly delivered and having presented the CD's to my local old folks home they are now delighted to be able to hear God's Word professionally read to them.
