Good, not great starter kit. Outgrown in about 2 months(for me)
Work suddenly sent us home and asked us to do all our presentations remotely. They did not tell us how nor did they provide us with any support except for oral encouragement. I always wanted to Chroma Key and never had the opportunity and this was a good opportunity. I scoured Amazon for a kit and found quite a few and chose this one. I've learned quite a few things in the 2 months since I've had this kit and if I had to do it again, I wouldn't buy this kit. But this kit help me learn some new things and helped me realize it wasn't enough. As a learning kit or training wheels, it served that purpose and it wasn't that expensive for the lessons learned. The kit arrived with some missing and extra items, so I requested a replacement and took the missing items from it and sent the rest along with the extra items back. As of today (May 25, 2020), the kit shows as no longer available.I at first was using an old webcam, then progressed to an upgraded webcam on another laptop, cell phone with droidcam, then finally an old mirrorless camera with capture box. With each camera change, I also changed out things in the kit for some new additional items, all ordered from Amazon. The green screen included in this kit was okay at first with the older webcams, but because I had it right behind me, it wasn't ideal. It was a little finicky with the Chroma Key and because it was so close to me, it would show a green halo around me. I ended up moving it 8 feet behind me and the included screen was no longer enough. The hanging mechanism was also clunky and unstable. The included screen was either not tall enough or not wide enough once it was 8-feet behind me. I ended up retiring the included screen and hanging mechanism and found out that lime green poster board from a local dollar store did a better job. Not only was the poster board easier to mount and more stable, the lime green was easier to Chroma Key out and gave a cleaner result than the included screen. Each poster board was 70 cents and I needed 20 of them to cover the wall plus make a curved edge transition at the wall/ceiling interface and also the wall/floor interface.I still use the included sofboxes and stands. I also bought some additional 4 bulb sockets but found that these could not fit into the included 1-bulb soft boxes easily. I had to buy some additional stands from other vendors - some that were taller than the included ones and some that were shorter than the included ones. I also purchased some different softboxes from another vendor that could accommodate the 4-bulb sockets I bought. I found the stands included with the kit were too short for a hair light and too tall and unsteady for lights behind the camera to light my face. I had used to included umbrellas at first as softboxes, but later discovered they leak too much light plus the shaft is a little too long to safely be behind my monitors next to the camera.So what am I still using with this kit? I am using 3 stands and 2 softboxes.What am I no longer using? The green screen, the screen mount, one stand, the reflector, the 2 single bulb sockets, and the umbrellas.What am I using that I had to buy elsewhere? 4 shorter stands, 4x 4 bulb sockets, 2 octagonal softboxes, and 3 gold mirrored square softboxes. and a wall mounted lime green screen made from 20x lime green poster boards. I occasionally use the white and black screens as table covers when shooting something.However, it wasn't as if I received the kit and realized that immediately it wasn't enough. I actually made videos with each and every single piece of this kit, slowly changing one piece out and improving things with each video. Since this was now part of my job, things progressed much faster than if this was a hobby. It wouldn't be fair of me to return the kit since I did use it as it was intended, I just found out rather quickly I needed more. It was a great learning experience and well worth the investment.
