I'm using this between a Sony mic and a Sony action camera (FDR-X3000) which is notorious because it overboosts the mic input leading to distortion. This will fix that. I tried a few recordings and then checked them in Audacity for clipping. I was able to get the input down to a safe level. Sound was OK (i.e. no obvious major issues), but I'm not checking it critically to see if the adjuster has changed the sound.The problem is that repeating this next time will be tricky as the wheel which controls volume is loose-ish and has no markings. So you can't set to a certain level. It also seems not very linear on first impressions. I think that testing it as I did will be essential and I'm going to try then marking or even glueing it to that level.In my case I want to use this mainly for vlogging with the mic in a motorcycle helmet so that might work. It wouldn't be practical for different types of recording. Althhough expensive for what you get, it's still cheap enough that I may buy another for general use or will probably make something myself with a pot because it will be a neater thing for my needs. This was useful for checking that this will work.

This works fine, and is best used with headphones while browsing YouTube or similar - for when the volume levels vary wildly from one video to the next (I do so hate that!), and you don't want to keep adjusting the audio settings on your P.C.However, the volume control sadly doesn't act like an amplifier - the max setting on the volume wheel is the regular input volume, so this will only lower the volume of something if it's too high. It won't increase the volume beyond the input level; you have to increase the input volume for that.I gave 3 stars for the sound quality as it neither diminishes nor improves on the quality of the input signal. It also works great as a very slight extension cable if your audio cable's just a bit too short for your needs.

Does what it’s meant too

I use this to reduce the earphone output volume of a TV while my wife listens to the loudspeakers. Perfect for both of us.

Ordered this when my Maplin in-line volume control gave up the ghost. Works as expected and means I can keep my DAB at a reasonable volume and turn it down using this without the resultant background noise that exists with a normal volume control at low levels.

So useful I bought a 2nd one for my TV to speakers.
