Love Over Gold

My personal favorite from Dire Straits.... This album is unlike any other one from the group. Has a very non-commercial/non radio friendly approach to the composition and the song lengths... Has a good progressive touch and feel. The melodies and riffs in between the songs are incredibly amazing and catchy. Knopfler is at his best here... well you may ask when he hasn't been!You should dig this classic... To have it on Vinyl is even more exciting!

Many listeners tend to pick up Brothers in Arms and releases that came after this album. But I highly recommend you listen to this album. I personally think that this is one of the best by Dire Straits.

Great pressing, nice and heavy. Remastering is excellent. A Dire Straits classic, what’s not to be liked!

A bit annoyed about this one as I've wanted a new vinyl copy of this classic album for a while. I returned the first one since it clearly skipped on two of the tracks. On inspection under high magnification (sorry, call me a nerd but I'm an engineer and it just had to be done!) it gives the impression of some 'gunk' in a few spots. I suspect mould release agent but can't say for sure. The second one I got sent skips in identical place on the one track suggesting a die fault (?) but also a noticeable one-per-rev click at the end of the first side......so annoying. Didn't have the patience to send a second one back but now each time I listen to it I get more annoyed. Grrr

Been getting back into vinyl with all the remastered albums and high quality pressings, so this seemed like a natural choice. First play I was a bit underwhelmed with the sound quality, and a lot of noise, so gave it a good clean with a brush and cloth. That solved most of the problem. Though remastering wise Propaganda’s Secret Wish still wins for sheer breadth and depth of soundstage.The album is worth getting for Telegraph Road and Private Investigations alone, but overall there isn’t a bad track on it. Indeed if it had Romeo and Juliet on too, it’d be perfect (but then it’d be a compilation LOL)! Overall a much more sublime and sophisticated masterpiece than the more commercial Brothers in Arms.

The vinyl has a surface noise which runs on all tracks and both sides which is a shame because the remaster sounds great my copy as no clicks or pops just a constant surface noise more notable between tracks and quieter pieces of music , that said at £10.99 at present it’s not bad if it had been its normal £20.99 I’d return it . Ps this vinyl was tested on 3 different turntables similar results on all pressing noise

Mittlerweile habe ich die vierte Version von "Love Over Gold" in meiner Musiksammlung. Über die beiden CD Versionen muss ich sagen, dass sie klanglich mir lieber waren als die SHM-SACD aus japanischer Mischung. Obwohl ich Fan von HRA FLAC bin und viele SACD/DVD-Audio Datenträger besitze war ich von der japanischen Version enttäuscht. Es war alles "kristallklar" und "steril sauber". Der Spass am Klang und der Musik kam jedoch nicht richtig rüber. Mittlerweile ist jedoch eine zweite SACD auf dem Markt. Aufgrund des Preises habe ich mir lange überlegt, ob ich nochmal zuschlagen soll. Die Entscheidung mich auf die MoFi SACD einzulassen war goldrichtig. An dieser Mischung (Version) gibt es nichts auszusetzten. Es handelt sich um eine perfekte Darstellung vom Bass bis zu den Höhen. Wärme, Druck, Auflösung und räumliche Darstellung sind so, wie ich es erwarte und von vielen guten Aufnahmen her kenne. Die Meister des Klangs von MoFi sind bestimmt vielen noch von den MFSL CD Goldversionen bekannt, die ja auch schon hervorragend waren. Ich hoffe da kommt noch mehr auf SACD.Meine Klangkette besteht aus OPPO UDP-203 über DSD auf Yamaha RX A-3010 und Nubert nuPowerA auf NuVero140.

what an album, allways liked this band but not got in too deep, i do own the classics, but after buying this one i decided to slowly buy every album, the instrumentals in it are faaaaaantastic, seems like there is some surface noise though after listening for the 2nd and third time, and once you hear it, you hear it. regards everybody Phil ,,,,,,,,
