1-2-3 Magic (Audio CD): Effective Discipline for Children 2-12 Audio CD – Unabridged, April 1, 2006

I really enjoyed this audio cd. It was entertaining and fun to listen to but I also found it really helpful. When I listened to it the first time, my daughter was 1 year old, so she was a little too young to start this discipline technique. But I found that even though she might not know what I was doing, counting really helped me because it removed my anger out of the equation when she was misbehaving. I do think that the tendency for parents is to overuse rationalization when disciplining their children and Phelan is right on the money when he says over and over again that children are NOT rational!! I could explain over and over again until I am blue in the face why my daughter shouldn't do this or that but all of it is going to go in one ear and out the other. That's probably why parents get so frustrated. We try to explain and try to explain and the child keeps up the misbehavior so we eventually blow a gasket. I am probably going to listen to this audio cd over and over again. I just bought the book, too, in case there is more information in there.

This book is a short read, full of many (funny) anecdotes. There are many situations that you will identify with (either things you've done yourself, or situations you've seen some other poor parent struggling with at a grocery store). This book gives practical ideas, that you can use on day one, to help give loving, but firm, guidance and parenting to your child. You won't regret this purchase; this really works. It is worth every penny!Now that I have completed and successfully use the book, I often want to, sympathetically, hand it to other parents I see at the grocery store. Their pain is an oh so familiar one. I want to share our success with all the others who have walked in my shoes....

I love this! The CDs came in great shape as expected. I was worried when ordering this, that the audio may be very bland and boring, making it hard to listen to. But it definitely is not! Everything is explained very well with enthusiasm by Dr. Phelan. He makes many jokes throughout. He uses many examples and experiences of his own parenting as well as stories from his clients, making it very relatable. I have been using this discipline technics with my 18 month old. This has helped us tremendously! Having guidance through difficult stages of behavior is just what we needed. I would recommend this to any parent!

Great and effective program. The "stop" tactics worked right away on our children. The "start" tactics are effective but take a bit longer to implement because the parent might have to re-train their brain to recognize positive actions of their children and not just focus on the negative actions. Thomas Phelan makes these audio disks fun to listen to. In comparison - 1-2-3 Magic is easier to comprehend and implement than The Total Transformation program.

One of the biggest responsibilities a parent has is to raise children with healthy self-esteem and socially acceptable behavior. This book is the greatest tool a parent can use to reach those goals. Parents who do not take responsibility for disciplining their children and teaching them the difference between appropriate and inappropriate behavior are actually abusing their children and raising them to feel badly about themselves and be socialy ostracized. Man-up parents and DO YOUR JOB - no excuse not to with a book like this available. Takes the pain and frustration away if you use this approach. Happy disciplining!!!!!!!!

We loved listening to the CD's. They are very informative, practical, and humorous. When we tried counting, we were really surprised at its effectiveness. It's different enough from our "you better be ready by the time I count to 3" to make it work for children. They hear and respond. My single father son and I, the grandmother, both use this method as it is clear and fair for the children and helps us keep calm and in control. So simple and it works.

We had almost 5 weeks of our son vehemently resisting our efforts. Then - payday!! This book has saved us from a negative outlook on our young son. And the best part, our 2 year old had it figured out when we started implementing just after her birthday. I notice that my sister automatically uses a version when around us, she's never read the book, but she sees our success. Buy it, it can change your family and all for the better!!

Oh my goodness! this is just a fantastic CD! my son was a control freak and along with being a tester and whole lot of other things. This CD teaches you to break all those nasty habits within a days! yes a few days. Key NO EMOTION! Even the strongest personalities will change! Thank you Dr. Phelan for this incredible CD you help me and my family so much!

I bought the audio cd as it covers 1 2 3 Magic and More 1 2 3 magic.I have enjoyed listening to the cd's albeit the music and intro are a bit irritating to my "Non- American" ears.Thomas Phelan's presentation is witty and full of sense. I have only just started to use 1 2 3 magic with my 6 & 7 year old and life is already much calmer and the children have responded well to it. I think starting out with young children or those who are not familiar with time outs will have more of a challenge but the hard work is worth it.

This book as really saved my life it is so good I would highly recommend this to anyone I read and listen to it most days

Do not waste your money on this cd. I can sum it up in two lines," if you dont behave im counting to three, if i get to 3 then its time out."The rest of the cd is examples of this, and different situations.Absolute waste of money. The narrator speaks so fast its a wonder the audio got passed.

This book presents an easy to follow system for developing good habits and preventing bad habits in kids. Surprisingly it starts working very fast. Our paediatrician recommended this book to as, and it helped us a lot.
