My son bought his baby an easel (chalkboard/magnetic sides) when she was 1 y/o (I thought he was crazy); I bought these chalk holders. Seven months later, she's been at that easel daily since it arrived -- and these holders help to make it possible (so that the chalk doesn't break …. or get all over her hands). Her dexterity is amazing -- I think helped by this practice.

The only reason not 5 stars is the magnet is not real strong. If it gets bumped, it will come lose if you have it attached to something magnetic. Other than that....I like them very much

4 colors works for our family of 4 on the chalkboard calendar. Magnets are long, but seem not as strong as they should be. It holds the chalk on a rough surface, but on the smooth freezer door they slip or drop off when the door is used.

So happy, I took a gamble and this fits the fatter 1.1 cm diameter Japanese Chalk!! You need to shimy it in there. But it works and so much cheaper than the other expensive Japanese chalk holders. Plus it includes a carrying case! Very happy.
