These egg timers work brilliantly. The only loss of star for this one is that it's a bit harder to read than my previous one (that has started to come apart). My fussy old partner likes his cold boiled eggs with the yolk still runny and these are pretty accurate. I imagine this as if I can see though into the eggs - the timer changed from red to white from the outside towards the center and I take the eggs out once the only red bit left is about the size of the yolk then plunge them into ice cold water to halt the cooking (this also stops that grey rim forming around the yolk). If they are particularly large eggs I will leave the "yolk" to be a tiny bit smaller.

It works , soft eggs at last

While I was initially sceptical about the efficacy of this item, that scepticism was proved to be entirely misplaced. The egg timer works really well. The first two attempts were a bit "hit and miss", in that one egg was cooked slightly over what I wanted and another was slightly under. But, now I have now got it right. What people need to remember is that the pan should be filled with cold water before the egg and timer are immersed. A medium soft egg is indicated on the time after about 9 minutes. Enjoy.

I have been using this egg timer for over a year now. It has performed perfectly every time providing me with soft or hard boiled, as I desired. At the price, I highly recommend this as a far better way than traditional timing methods. It seems to work by mimicking the density of an egg, changing colour from the outside edge. All you need to do is take the eggs out of the water as the colour change reaches the line marking your desired egg softness.

After a couple of uses it discoloured but is fairly accurate and easy to use
