PROFESSSIONAL QUALITY INFORMATION
Im a auto mechanic for a german auto maker(not vw)for over 11 yrs now. I bought this to service my vw jetta, ,mostly for specs and wiring diagrams. From a professional level this book is very good. It has lots of valuable info and specs for the diy weekend mechanic. The wiring diagrams are full and there are a ton of them. I read wiring diagrams daily for my job, but found these very difficult to follow. I feel theres too much wiring and items on each page. The wiring pics are small and its hard to follow each wire from page to page. You almost have to use a magnifing glass to follow thru the diagrams. All in all its worth the cash if you plan on servicing your own car. The chilton or other similar books have limited info, and are more geared to the diy mechanic. This book is more greared to someone who knows what parts make up a car and what makes one tick.

This is the most useful manual I've seen
I've used Chilton and Haynes manuals and was completely floored when this thing arrived in the mail.I have the Haynes manual for the same car and am sorry I spent the $30 on that one. The Haynes is printed on poor quality gray newsprint with low contrast and grainy photographs. The Bentley is printed on sturdy, bright white paper. There are no photos, but the illustrations are much more useful than the pictures. As an example, I needed to replace the nuts for the wiper arms. The Haynes was no help but the Bentley told me in the exploded wiper diagram that they were M8 nuts.I replaced the heater core in the car with the Haynes and was frustrated beyond belief at the poor editing, fact checking and cross referencing. I simulated the same procedure with the Bentley and I think the task would have been about 30% easier if I'd had this book for the initial run.The wiring diagrams and trouble-shooting sections alone in this book are worth twice what I paid for it and are either generic or completely missing in the Haynes.Short of having the actual VW service manuals and guides I don't know how you could get better.

Dissapointing schematics
I buy manuals mostly for the schematics. I read the reviews (spoke highly of the book), plunked down my money and find that for my 97 Cabrio the schematics are quite poor. Now, there are many pages of snippets of schematics (that are supposed to flow together, well sort of.. ), it's just that it isn't clear which snippets are for which particular model and where you can find a particular circuit or component. It's almost as if someone picked these up off the engineering dept floor and shuffled them together in some random order, and lost the labels! I'm also not convinced they are all there even though there are many pages of them. You can tell you are looking at the schematic for a diesel model not by the label or the directory but by finding glow plug controller in one. I have had better luck going to Ebay and looking up the control number for a given relay to learn what it is than attempting to look it up in this book. I have several electrical problems and so far this book has been little help. Now, besides the schematics, this is a large manual and looks good but I can't tell you if it is good since I haven't checked the other material out. PS I remember VW schematics in the "old" days that were very correct and intelligible but new days are here. I can't tell if VWs are getting too complicated for the engineering dept to keep track of the changes and the correct schematics, or if something was lost in "translation" (from VW to Bently).

most have if you own a MK3 Jetta, Golf, GTI, and Cabrio
I was stupid not to spend the money on this repair manual years ago. It is actually much easier to follow procedures when doing repairs job that require a high degree of knowledge and information. This manual as even Torque Specs. and the easy ways of doing repairs. Also the correct tools to use for completing repair jobs.

With reservation, this manual is the best.
The reservation is the wiring diagrams. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to get any wiring diagram. Years ago VW, and their lot, decided to go with current flow diagrams because the circuits got very complicated, and due to cost, they soon dropped the color. I still prefer the older color wiring laid out by position of item in car used in early Bentley manuals. Considering how important and how useful ease of circuit tracing is, I wish Bentley would raise the price and give us consumers everything to help. (Did I really say raise the price?) Otherwise, Bentley exceeds the official factory mauals in ease of use.

Bently is Awesome!
While I don't own a VW anymore, or a car for that matter, this book really bailed me out when it came to fixing problems with the electrical systems. The book just blows american technical manuals out of the water when it comes to useful information and explanations. Chilton's manuals are so general when it comes to foreign cars, you might as well throw them away if you have a REAL problem. I had to solve a problem with a turn signal and a couple other things and couldn't find a book in any local auto shop that would explain the fuse box at all. This book had a complete mapout of the electrical system that was nothing short of astounding. All in all, the thoroughness of this manual, and Bently manuals in general is awesome. You won't waste your money.

Excellent Manual - Very detailed.
This is an excellent manual for VW Golf available in the market. Its been a month since i bought it and have already used it to actually repair 3 issues. Change a tail light cluster, cabin air filter change, engine air filter change. and I'm no pro with cars. I just like my car and i'm curious about things. So this book is just what i needed. There are also details specific to models which i couldnt find in my Haynes manual (my first repair manual). Let me just add that this book is far far better than Haynes manual ,which is the other popular publisher you'll come across. And also this book is better than having a dvd , no matter how detailed the dvd may be. Simply because you can find what you want when you're working on the car.Nick.

Clutch info missing
Great book- if you are mechanicaly inclined, detail may not be great enough for the person who isn't.Regarding the 020 transmission- the clutch section covers the pedal to the cable (at the lever) and then the clutch assembly itself. There is nothing regarding the clutch lever which activates the clutch which has been known to strip. I contacted Bentley and they have no information on this. However if you are mechanicaly minded it is simple to remove the housing at the tip of the transmission which houses the lever and repair.5 star if you are a mechanic, I'd guess at 2 star if you're not.KP

Best service manual out there
Bentley makes great service manuals for these cars. There are very detailed descriptions in here that will guide you through any maintenance you may need to perform on your car. I really recommend it to anyone that wants to maintain their car themselves.
