The publisher should be ashamed of themselves. The formatting bunches up words and the end notes are not linked in text. TERRIBLE job SUNY. Great work Matthew, an excellent piece of scholarship.

This book is an easy read that is thoroughly informative on its subject.I do think he comes up short by his exclusion of the word patriarch and all of its meaning, which would have more descriptive of the societal forces he describes.Also missing is matriarch as an approach to plant life. My sense is that the cover of your book is a negative for your book. It's a big nothing!

A thoughtful, well-developed, well-supported book. The author surveys a wide array of traditions, draws useful connections, and proposes possible applications. Very, very highly recommended.

I found this book in the library by accident and what a fun find. If all else, this book will force the reader to question their traditional view of the passive plant world. The book itself is an easy read; yet, it is deeply important.

Absolutely fascinating book challenging the way we view and relate to plants. As a keen gardener I always believed plants should be treated with greater respect, and certainly not viewed as bottom of the food chain! I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in our relationship with plants and the role plants play in cultures and religions across the world. Beautifully written piece of work.
