Modern Automotive Technology

This book is a great way to learn how cars work and how to repair them. When I was in high school this book is what I used to learn about cars and its great. It covers how an engine works, engine preformance and service and diesel fundamental. Other areas the book covers are brakes, ignition, transmissions, steering,drive train/axles, cooling systems, heating/ac, safety and navigation system, emsssions, lubrication system, suspension, fuel system, electrical parts of the car (wires, battery, alternator). Different sensor on the car and how to diagnose and fix them. Vocab on different automotive terms, how to use tools, safety in a garage, how electricity and the different computer systems work in the car and tips/direction on how to do different task, like preforming different test to diagnose a problem. Some other information the book cover is turbo and supercharger, maintenance care and hybrid operation and repair. In all this is a great book for those who love cars or what to work on them.

i read it back to back leisurely, easy reading good content3 days before each of 4 ASE exams i reviewed, passed all 4 1st time (your mileage may vary)I also read these two (two not four) before the tests: ASE Automobile Test Readiness Series: (ie, Suspension & Steering - A4), ASE Automobile Test Readiness Series : Engine Repair - A1. one of which i lost long before the actual test. They are good but really only for readying you for the way questions will be asked, they are not appropriate for the whole test in any way.I never attended any "county college auto course" at all. Just mainly this book and talk to other mechanics while apprenticing. didn't take all 4 exams at once (not allowed to anyway)

I'm no mechanic nor have any interest of being one. I bought this to learn how to fix certain things myself and so I don't get ripped off when I go to the mechanic. Now if I decide to spend the time and money to fix something myself, I'll have a great reference to get started. I do have mechanics as friends and other friends are big into fixing and modifying cars themselves that always say they want to borrow this because they love it. That being said, I recommend this to people like me who want to know how to do the simple things themselves and not get scammed when paying for the bigger things.

The book has a great writing style that is clear and to the point. It explains complex modern systems in great detail and in a manner that is clear and engaging. Another thing that is rather unique are the extremely detailed illustrations. They display not just the component, but also how it relates to the rest of the vehicle as part of a system. This gives you a strong visual impression of how the component works, how it interrelates to other components, a good idea of its location within the system, and so on. As they say, a good picture is worth a thousand words! I've found these highly detailed illustrations to be absolutely invaluable.

This is not a review, but a comment on this item (I'm giving an average rating so i'm not skewing the statistics). If you want to buy used version from listed vendors, do make sure you are buying the text instead of the job sheets or workbook. They are both listed under the same title and ISBN number, the latter is considerably cheaper which caused me to purchase it. But it's not useful at all. Amazon really should improve how they are listing books in this kind of scenario.

Good condition, good text, good price.

Very useful and covers many topics. Some topics lack detail for better understanding, but one can only fit so much in an already heavy textbook

I take an automotive class at my school and use this textbook. I bought it used because I wanted to just get it to do homework and the book was in immaculate condition
