I wanted so much to like this book
I wanted so much to like this book, but we haven't made it past the first chapter. I think part of the reason why my son doesn't seem to like it is that it immediately jumps to some kind of mean-kid school drama, which isn't really his thing. As a part of that, it also starts out with reading about a kid speaking in a mean way about math and people who like math. I know that the book must eventually get past that part, but that whole opening scene derailed the book for us. I'm trying to support my son's love of math, not read him through a reminder of how much some people hate it. The next time we start the book, I may try to begin at something other than the first page.

Good Story!
I read this book to my 7 year old daughter and we both enjoyed it. We also did the word problems at the end of the book, which are a definitely above her current 2nd grade math skills, but it was fun to tell her how I would work through them.I was a I bit concerned that the story wouldn’t be terribly interesting and focus too much on the math at the expense of the story, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was actually quite engaging and we were both excited to find out the solution to the mystery!I liked the diversity of the characters and the stylized drawings inside the book. I wish they used the same artist for the cover.Quote from my daughter: “My favorite part was the math at the end. I also like just reading it because I really love books and stuff. I really want to read more in this series!”

JUGGLING THE NUMBERS
Clever, humorous and well-written detective mystery targeted for late elementary and middle school readers. I must admit the plot kept me guessing and entertained. Chapters are short and easy to read. Pencil sketches are an added bonus. I particularly enjoyed the way that the authors found a way to integrate those dreaded hard to solve math word problems right into the story line. As a bonus, the reader is presented with a few more problems to solve at the conclusion of the mystery. They can check their answers on the authors’ website.Felix, Gertie, Stanley and Charlotte are a bright group of sixth graders who become interested in forming a detective agency. Using Felix’s tree house as a base of operations, Felix attempts to find out who is stealing his food from the kitchen by using his binoculars. When Charlotte brings a police scanner up to the house, they hear about an armed robbery at the local jewelry store. The budding detectives rush to the scene. They discover the owner Mr. Franklin has been hit on the head and his most valuable possession, the Claymore diamond, has been stolen. Police apprehend a suspect quickly, and the case appears closed. Our four young detectives believe otherwise; they refuse to quit until what had appeared obvious is revealed as erroneous.Lots of twists and turns in the plot. The characters are believable and authentic middle grade students. Readers will find themselves enjoying the math challenges that come along with the case. Great way to get students involved with math while reading. Look forward to reading new books in the series as they are released.

Great chapter book for kids!
I am reading this series to my 6 year old and we love it! We are in a kids book club and discovered it that way, but we are currently on the 2nd book. There are 9 year olds in the book club that read it on their own and enjoyed it as well. I feel like it can be hard to find chapter books for this “in-between” age, and these are perfect. My son just got the 3rd and 4th for a gift per his request. The stories are very engaging, we do one chapter a night and I often stretch it to two because I genuinely want to know what happens. There’s also a series called The Science Inspectors by the same author that we are planning to get all the cousins started on at Christmas - the incidental learning with this type of book is phenomenal. Highly recommend it!

Another great book by Daniel Kenney
My kids love Daniel Kenney books. So, when I saw one of his books, that was also about math, I thought this was going to be a sneaky way for me to get them to get some "math" worked into their reading. Turns out, I didn't have to be sneaky at all. My 9 and 10 year old both loved these books. I'm going to get the whole trilogy. I also showed the book to my son's teacher, and she thought they'd be a great addition to her classroom library, so I'm going to get her a set too.

Great start to a series.
This is the first book in a promising series. Stanley and his friends have to find a jewelry thief and show proof of their guilt, and they use math to solve the crime. That's all I want to say about the plot. What I liked about it is all the pop culture references in it. It was like revisiting my childhood. There's a lot of laughs to keep children of all ages glued to this book.I plan to tell my students about it. That's the highest complement I can give. I'm looking forward to the second book. Start it now, and thank me later.

11yo son loves the book
My 11yo son is fan of anything math so I thought he might like a new read and I was right. His love for reading and his love for math combined in one single product. He rereads this book frequently. Guess it will be time to get volume two.

Math Lovers Get Ready...
I was given this book for Christmas. I am in fourth grade and thought it was such a great plot and story. It tore through it in two days. My favorite character was Stanley, of course. I'm very happy to see the next book...signed your devoted 9-almost 10-year old fan.

Making the impossible possible with Maths
When your children ask when am I ever going to use mathematics in life? Well this book proves that maths is great while you follow around Sherlock Homes but with the secret weapon of numbers and fractions. It's a great way to sneak maths into reading for children

A Renewed Desire to Read
Gave this book to a 9 year old child who did not like to read but loved to do math. He read it in two weeks and provided me with a very good book report. This book completely changed his attitude towards reading.
