Nice guide, but wish wheels were in-line with side clamping jaws
This guide was well-machined and designed. Its short-coming is the off-set wheels which, when holding a larger plane iron, can be too wide for the typical sharpening stone. It still works, but you have to be mindful of the path or you risk gouging the stone and fouling the iron. That said, this works well with chisels and narrower irons. I sold mine and purchased a recently released competing model that ticks all of the boxes: side-clamping, in-line wheels, and precision-machined.

Hone Like A Pro!
My first attempt at sharpening chisels was a complete success thanks to this device and a new set of Norton water stones. I was able to rescue an old (50+ years) set of my Dad's bench chisels into a perfectly honed and pitched set - probably for the first time in their existence. Take it from a total novice, this is a great and simple solution for honing any 1" or smaller straight chisel.

Very, very cool.
A magnificent jig, clearly designed thoughtfully. The traditional method for sharpening Japanese chisels is freehand, holding at the proper angle. This jig is basically a very good set of training wheels to develop that muscle memory... Or sharpen small plane irons perfectly.

Its a really good guide
I didnt buy this guide on amazon but got it from somewhere in England. Its a really good guide for narrow and shorter japanese chisel blades and it also works well on longer blades also. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because of the ertalite rollers. The rollers hold up well but if you are not carefull and one or both of the rollers sticks on the honing material surface then you will put a flat spot on the roller and this pretty much renders the guide worthless for a good edge.I dont know why but the only place you can buy replacement rollers is from Richard Kell himself in England and while it isnt really that expensive to get the replacement rollers it would be nice if some of the distributors in the USA would carry them too.If you buy this guide...which is well worth the price then you should contact Richard Kell, he has a website....just google Richard Kell...and order a replacement set of rollers.....just in case.
