Cliff Richard 60th Anniversary Concert [2018]

Far Toooooo Many Cover Songs!!!!!
Let me first of all state: ''I am reviewing the DVD that was filmed at the Manchester Bridgewater Hall'' 2018. So therefor i am reviewing this DVD... and not another Cliff Richard Concert at any other venue in 2018.I get the impression that most of the 5 Star Reviews are coming from people who have watched Cliff Richard at other venues in 2018 and they must of had a 'Great Time' and a 'Very Wonderful Experience'. So most of them cannot be reviewing this DVD? (so they are reviewing their experience at other venues) (most are not even verified purchasers of this DVD)?So basically some reviewers must have pre-ordered this DVD... and rated it well before it's release date by basing their thoughts and experiences on a concert at a totally different venue. If they were giving an honest review of ''THIS DVD'' then maybe there would be an average rating of 3.5 Stars? So considering this is a LANDMARK in Cliff Richard's career... his 60th year in the music business... The performance or should i say 'The Production' is very average, it has nothing special to offer, and certainly nothing memorable. It's not a patch on any of his previous DVDs Like his '75th Birthday Concert' and 'Time Machine Tour' etc...Cliff has a HUGE BACK CATALOGUE of his own songs... but he sang around 7 cover versions? most were a complete waste of time, even though they were performed ''Very Well''... but certainly weren't really needed. I will let him off with The 'Elvis' song... because, if it wasn't for 'Elvis' there DEFINITELY would not be a Cliff Richard? There were no ''Special Guests'' and no ''Female Backing Singers''. The lighting was pretty good though... as it changed colour and appearance throughout the decades from the 1950's to '2018'.Maybe they should have filmed the concert at 'The Royal Albert Hall' (where most of the 5 star ratings come from) and perhaps that would have been much more interesting as i think most people who reviewed this were reviewing that concert and NOT THIS DVD!The sound quality on this DVD is nothing special... had to turn volume up a lot. (still not much better) (but maybe that's just me)?Not only is Cliff celebrating his 60th anniversary in the music business, but there is a certain group called 'The Shadows' who were also established way back in 1958 as his backing group... and as we all know they went onto having a huge success in their own right. Now it would have been so nice if Hank Marvin could have made an appearance at this show? and then that would have been Fantastic... but Hank could not even be bothered to turn up at Cliffs 75th Birthday Concert back in 2015... unless he turned up at the Royal Albert Hall Concert? but, (you may need to contact some of the 5 star reviewers to find the answer to that). To sum up:I will give FULL CREDIT to 'Cliff' and his 'Excellent' Band as they all performed Very Well Indeed... Cliffs voice seemed in 'Tip-Top' Condition, his movements were quite lively and he seemed to be enjoying himself on stage which is fantastic for someone as young as 78.Love his new singles 'Rise Up' and 'Reborn' he sang them very well indeed! The problem i thought was no Real Atmosphere to this show... RUINED by 'Far Too Many Cover Songs' that could have been replaced with: 'Green Light,Carrie,On The Beach,Dancing Shoes' and several more. I understand the reason for the covers... but his own songs would have been very much more appreciated. (i think the audience felt this as well).Missing very much were female backing singers, along with some special guests, and possibly some dancers to liven the whole show up?.This concert is considerably shorter than 'Cliff's' previous ones i have on DVD, as it lasts for just under 2 hours... yet his previous ones last for much longer. It would have been a much better idea and very more respectful, if this DVD was recorded at 'The Royal Albert Hall' and not at 'Manchester Bridgewater Hall'? I mean what a wonderful venue that is for such an event like 60 years in the business. So if you are thinking of buying this DVD then fair enough... i did because of all the 5 Star Reviews... but if i had read this review i would have waited until the price drops a bit more. Sorry for just the 3 Stars.

Like Chips without salt and vinegar
I have been a fan of Cliff for many decades.I just find this DVD to be very lacklustre. I dont know if its the production or what, theres just no atmosphere to it. I can see there is an audience but it just doesnt seem to have anything going for it. Cliffs comments fall on deaf ears (or theyve cut reactions out etc), its very stilted.I kept skipping bits as I was that unimpressed and I never do that with cliff stuff.Having watched the "rehearsal" extras they seem to be more strongly sung.I think the lack of songs with a bit of oomph/beat to them is partly responsible. I dont know if thats just coincidence or those are now better suited to cliffs voice, A lot of the covers could have been replaced from the same decades with some more lively, poppy, loved songs of his own.Im used to Cliff concerts/CDs sounding very "full and rounded vocally" but this is neither of those things.Going to see him in October, I do hope that this was just the DVD and not a downturn in quality of performance. Ive loved Cliff since I was a child, I love the new album "Music the air that I breathe" but this DVD is bland - like chips without salt and vinegar.

Don't Listen to the Negative Reviews
This is excellent! Cliff sings a selection of his own hits and also favourite songs by other artists over the past 60 years. He is looking older of course, but he's 78 and has been through a lot in the last few years which has probably taken its toll on his looks and health. He is not out of tune as one reviewer said, he still sounds the same and is a pleasure to listen to. The band are great but are not carrying him. All in all, a great show.

Reborn but not yet at his best
I bought this primarily as a historical record of an underestimated singer. On the downside, I didn’t like most of the songs nor the outfits. This was not, in my opinion, his best concert. However, it is a significant one. The song I enjoyed most was ‘reborn’ but this is not the old Cliff. It’s more complex than that. Cliff is a competent singer who has an excellent relationship with his fans. But no amount of make-up can hide the effects of years of trauma. I submit he’s a man of courage and dignity trying to pick up where he left off.In terms of his achievements, young should watch this dvd and like the Beatles, let Cliff show you how it’s done. In short, a masterclass for students and I assume, an enjoyable concert for the fans.Meanwhile, I will not wait to express my respect for this man until his death. He deserves to be ackowledged as an influential veteran of UK pop now he can still laugh about it!Great to have him back.

good show
I have enjoyed watching this DVD, as I was unable to attend the concert.I thought I would miss the female backing singer(s), but actually his band are good and played with energy. They all seemed really into it and having a great time. I like the fact that some different songs were sung. I liked Cliff's anecdotes, and the way the songs went through the decades.Cliff was putting in his usual 100% and emotion, like he does. There are Extras on there too, including interview and questions with Cliff.Well done.

Poor sound quality
Very disappointed with the poor quality sound and not as good as his other dvd’s , possibly because of the venue it was recorded at , I’m sure most of the reviews on here were from the RAH performance and not Birmingham! The sound was very flat and volume had to be turn right up to get any atmosphere into the songs .. would have been nice to have some of his “old” songs not all the covers he performed but Elvis tribute was ok .. I’ve kept it as a memento of his 60th anniversary but if asked to recommend it I could only say “listen before you buy”...

Quality of dvd disappointing (not Cliff)
Disappointed with the quality of the dvd. Sound on the ‘Extra’ sections good but I had to have the volume turned to maximum for the concert itself and it was still fairly quiet. This, and the fact that the sound and visuals were not ‘in sync’ spoiled an excellent concert. Is it just my copy or are they all the same?
