European and African based, globally-connected collective Afro Celt Sound System have been instrumental in fuelling that far-reaching approach; over 20 years, they've found kindred spirits across international talent, and forged a reputation for exhilarating shows and an accomplished catalogue of albums, dating back to their 1996 debut, Volume 1: Sound Magic. Now ACSS continue their adventures on ECC Records, with their first studio recording for a decade - 'The Source'. As it's title suggests, The Source summons the original Afro Celt energy and legacy, while simultaneously yielding fresh inspirations. "There was so much scepticism when we started out", admits Grammy-nominated multi-instrumental founder and producer Simon Emmerson. "We've gone from what was a fairly eccentric concept 20 years ago, to something that everyone understands; I think that's testimony to how resilient the music is. It is the first album to fully celebrate the African and Asian roots brought to the band by long-term members' vocalist, kora and balafon player N'Faly Kouyat and Dhol drummer Johnny Kalsi. Along with founder member Simon Emmerson (producer, guitars, cittern) and new core member Griogair (vocals, piping, guitars) winner of Gaelic Singer of the Year at the 2015 Scots Trad Music Awards.

Amazing Afro/Celt music
This is the second copy of this album I have brought... Got the first one at one of their shows - got it signed... then left the CD in my old PC when I moved... so re-ordered it.This is an EPIC album - the music has so much energy you can't help byt take it in and feel better... and the lyrics, especially in 'A Boy called Wonder' are nearly prophetic... (Also check out 'Wonder and the Medicine Wheels: A Rainbow Warrior’s Tale' by Pàl Ó' Siadhail )A must listen to album, I wouldn't be without it now ;)

One of their very best
If someone told me this was their favorite Afro Celts album of all then I probably couldn't argue. What an album!Edit update: 5/2/2018 - Still holds up well! I still find it refreshing to hear new Afro Celts. I think if I need to bring up one thing, is their main singer, James McNally, is not this album. Add to that this is their first release in a VERY long time. So don't expect all the magic, bells and whistles (no pun intended) of their first releases, but ti's an enjoyable ride, nonetheless. And further pushes the musicians into different musical realms.

Zero momentum / Extremely Repetitive
"Source" is my least favorite release from Afro Celt Sound System. I'm only giving this release three stars because it has Zero momentum and extremely repetitive song layouts and one song blends into another with no distinction from one song from another. Frankly I'm disappointed with this release being how exceptional their first 5 releases were which I would give all of them a five star rating. Glad to own this release but it is definitely not their best work and their least distinctive release out of their 6 releases. If I heard this release first, I never would have purchased their entire catalog. So with that being said I'm glad this is their 6th release and not their 1st release.

A few great tracks, the rest just filler.
I've been a faithful fan of ACCS since the beginning and I must say this album, while still has elements of their signature sound, just doesn't add up to the phenomenal tracks from Seed or Anatomic. It seems to be lacking that special "tribal" element that attracted me to them years ago. It's very heavy on vocals, which took away from the musicality. If the tracks were simply instrumental, they would be more interesting to listen to. Their strengths have always been Irish whistles, acoustic strings and African percussion and this one with so much focus on vocals, did not quite play to their strengths. A bit disappointed.

Great music from the new version of the band.
I know there's a schism between two warring factions of this band, but I don't care. This is great music, and although I miss James McNally on this one, you can never go wrong with afro Celt.

Unique and eclectic work.
I bought this on a recommendation and then read the reviews. An odd sensation to read a review that suggests this is not the best one then really enjoy the album. I cannot decide whether to be annoyed with myself for picking the wrong album or happy that I have now put a load of 'better' albums in my wish list.Good album, different to a lot out there but listenable and interesting. I’ve been through it a couple of times and its a grower as well. Not a purchase I regret.

Back On Track
This is a vast improvement on the anodyne pap that the Afro Celts have been churning out in recent years. The only reason I'm not giving it the fifth star is because I know they have done better than this in the past and I want to encourage them to do better and better. Several of these tracks show that Afro Celt Sound System are getting their mojo back. Get Iarla back on the next album guys, and get the fifth star.

wonderful fusion continues
An amazing Cd, full of life and energy. I am pleased to have it in my collection. My only sadness is that there are now 2 different Afro Celt Sound System's after the split and I hope they are able to move forward and both continue to make the wonderful fusion of music that made them band (bands) they are

I love it. It's certainly the band moving on
Well, I love it. It's certainly the band moving on. Has a feel of the band "Deep Forest" to it. Great use of excellent drums.
